N.C. State pitching coach Tom Holliday lights up anytime someone mentions the name of Carlos Rodon, his prized freshman left-handed pitcher.

Holliday has coached some great pitchers throughout his 30-plus year career as a college baseball coach. Most recently before his stint with the Wolfpack, he coached a pair of studs in left-hander J.P. Howell and right-hander Huston Street at Texas. He also coached plenty of great pitchers during his tenure as both a head coach and assistant at Oklahoma State.

Throughout all his stops, even at two historically dominant programs, Holliday has never seen a freshman pitcher dominant opposing hitters quite like Rodon.

"Stuff-wise, you could easily close your eyes and imagine Carlos out there in a big league uniform. And he'd, right now, be able to compete and hold his own," Holliday said. "He's very mature for a freshman and he's one of those guys that after a complete game, he acts like it's no big deal. He's that confident out there."
