Nat'l Under Session 3 Top Prospects

Class of 2013

C/3B, RHP Adrian Chacon (Tampa Jesuit  HS, FL)- Strong bodied ballplayer who continued to show good power at the plate and a plus arm, popping a 1.82 in the workout (with 81 mph velocity). From the mound Chacon sat 83-85 and he continued to show off excellent pullside power during games.

3B/RHP Angel Alicea-Nieves (Montverde Academy, SantaIsabel, PR)– Alicea-Nieves showed good actions and soft hands defensively with good arm strength.  He also ran a 6.86 in the 60. At the plate, heshowed some bat speed and solid contact. Alicea-Nieves is a high level prospect on the mound pitching at 87-89 MPH touching 90 MPH from a low 3/4 arm slot from an easy compact delivery. 

OF/RHP Logan Howell (A&M Consolidated HS, College Station, TX)- A solid all around skill set, Howell showed very good speed both in the outfield and on the bases. Posted the second best 60 yard dash time of the event at 6.84 and made accurate throws at 84 mph. Solid contact hitter who drove the ball to all fields and performed well in games. High energy player.

OF/RHP James Stroud (Bishop Sullivan HS, Virginia Beach, VA)- Quick all around actions and good athleticism, posted good all around workout results with a 6.84 60 yard dash time and threw 86 mph from the outfield. Showed quick hands at the plate, good bat whip with extension and emerging power.

MIF Onix Martinez (Arlington Country Day, Arecibo, FL)- His solid workout results (7.12 60 yard dash, 81 mph infield velocity) do not tell the whole story. Martinez features plus defensive actions with soft sure hands and a very quick release. Plus defensive 2B, also showed quick hands at the plate and hit  several balls hard in game action.

SS/RHP Angel Perez (San Juan Educational, Barceloneta, PR)- Leanathletic two-way prospect. Showed most upside on the mound where hisfastball sat 85-87 with a quick loose arm from a low ¾ arm slot.Good athleticism at short, solid defensive actions, arm plays well.Showed good bat speed and a balanced swing, projects to add strength.

3B/RHP Joey Boyd (Palm Beach Gardens HS, FL)- Showed good bat speed, driving through the baseball with a direct path and good extension. Showed strength to all fields with occasional present power, more to come. Showed a solid arm defensively with solid defensive actions.

LHP Brandon Gilson (Prosper HS, TX)- Big frame, low ¾ arm slot, quick strong arm. Fastball up to 86 mph with life, backed it up with two good breaking balls, curveball up to 72 and a slider up 76. Has some pitchability and good command.

RHP/C Chad Donato (Cypress Woods HS, Cypress, TX)- Sat 84-86, touching 87 with good life on his fastball. Struck out 9 of the 10 hitters he faced, showed good pitchability.

OF/3B Cameron Davis (Theodore HS, AL)- A physical specimen, Davis is a two-sport star. When he transfers his weight through the baseball he generates plus power. Needs to become more consistent with working through the ball on throws from the outfield and driving the ball at the plate.

3B/RHP Baylor Obert (St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Madison, MS)- Strong wrists and forearms create good carry off the bat. Generates good bat speed with a long powerful swing, also pitched and was up to 81 on the mound.

OF/RHP Frank Sturek Jr (West Springfield HS, Springfield, VA)- Leads knob of the bat well, showed good bat speed and projects to hit for power. Ran a solid 7.08 60 yard dash and also pitched, hitting 84 mph with his fastball.

C Frankie Rodriguez (Antonio Lucetti, Arecibo, PR)- Popped a 1.91 in the workout with a 77 mph velocity to his online throws with good carry. Good leverage in his swing, creates good bat speed with a long swing and slight uppercut path, has power potential.

MIF/OF Michael Bailey (Clear Lake HS, Houston, TX)- Showed good bat speed and projectable power, hit to all fields. Projectable body, light on his feet.

C/1B Cristian Perez (Columbus HS, Miami, FL)- Tall strong and athletic, Perez used his strength well behind the plate and offensively. Good bat speed with power potential. Solid arm strength behind the plate, popped a 2.01 and can improve with quicker release time.

RHP Scott Handler (Dwyer HS, Palm Beach Gardens, FL)- Lean build, low ¾ arm slot, working down in the zone at 82-85. Mixed in a 74 mph curveball, loose projectable arm.

C/2B Carlos Diaz (Bucky Dent Baseball Academy, Guaynabo, PR)- Strong armed catcher, popped a 1.98 and threw 79 mph. Quick bat, ball comes off well, hits to all fields, projects.

3B Mike Castilla (Riverdale HS, Lehigh Acres, FL)- Showed very good offensive tools with plus bat speed and good extension. Uses his lower half well, good rhythm to his swing, good carry off the bat.

OF/RHP Sean Kamhoot (PK Yonge HS, Gainesville, FL)- Followed up a very good workout (6.96 60 yard dash, 90 mph OF velocity) with a good round of BP, hitting several balls to the warning track. Also was up to 83 on the mound.

C/OF Sergio Rodriguez (Montverde Academy, Clermont, FL)- Switch hitting catcher, good hitting tools from both sides of the plate. Little bit more advanced from the left side but showed bat speed from both. Popped a 2.01 in the workout with a 75 mph velocity with good accuracy.

C/OF Walter J Vives (Mont Verde Academy, Mont Verde, FL)- Solid two way skills, aggressive swing, quick bat, ball carries. Quick whippy arm, needs to improve throwing mechanics to cut down on pop time and increase velocity, has the arm speed to do so.

SS Nelson Molina (Antonio Lucetti, Arecibo, PR)- Strong bodied player who lacks consistency to be an elite player at present but has the physical tools to be a very high level player. One to keep an eye on, has a chance to be really good.

MIF Kevin Olmeda (Caguas Military Academy, San Lorenzo, PR)- Threw 83 in the infield with high effort actions, ran a 6.91 and showed hitting tools from both sides of the plate.

OF/RHP Hunter McDaniel (Ridgeview HS, Orange Park, FL)- Really solid switch hitting two-way player. More advanced from right side, ran a 6.98 60 yard dash and threw 82 mph from the OF. Also pitched and was up to 81.

OF Alexander Cortes Torres (PRBAHS, Guaynabo, PR)- Long athletic build, long whippy arm action, good arm strength, threw very well from the outfield. Raw hitting tools at the plate but body projects. May want to consider learning to pitch, has the arm for it.

Class of 2014

MIF/RHP Nick Gordon (Olympia HS, Windemere, FL)- Attention grabbing tools, really stood out. Excellent all around skills, put on a show in BP, hammering several balls off the tall fence in RF. Was up to 89 mph on the mound in a dominating 3 inning performance and showed off a potential plus curveball up to 74 mph.

1B/LHP Jeremy Vasquez (Martin County HS, Palm City, FL)- Athletic, projectable build. Very good bat s peed, big separation, crushed the ball in BP, ball jumps off his bat with authority, plus present power to the pullside. Very good defensive skills at 1B, can really pick it.

3B/1B JJ Matijevic (Norwin HS, North Huntingdon, PA)- Crushed the longest Home Run of BP. Takes aggressive swings, good bat speed, uses lower half well.

C/INF, RHP Jared Barnes (North Florida Christian HS, Tallahasse, FL)- Quick projectable bat, fluid swing actions, short to the ball. Popped a 1.99 in the workout with a 76 mph velocity, also showed well in the infield and on the mound.

OF Quinlan Washington (Buchholz HS, Gainesville, FL)- Posted the best 60 yard dash time of the showcase, with an impressive 6.65. Projectable body, has present strength at contact, projects for more.

C/RHP, 3B Andrew Sharpe (Riverdale Baptis HS, Odenton, MD)- Big strong frame, good arm strength. Popped a 1.97 in the workout, hit 84 mph on the mound. Has bat speed, good strength at contact.

MIF/C, RHP Darren Miller (Key West HS, FL)- Showed off his arm strength from all over the diamond. Popped a 1.96 behind the plate and thew 77 mph in the C workout. Ran his fastball up to 85 mph and threw 84 from the OF.

RHP Zack Chappell (Fort Myers HS, FL)- Long projectable build, quick loose arm, projectable velocity. Topped out at 81 with a balanced delivery, curveball up to 67.

OF/RHP Anthony Munoz (Dade Christian School, Miami, FL)- Showed solid bat speed, projectable body, solid hitting tools to project. Fastball up to 78 mph on the mound.

MIF Amauri Rodriguez (PRBAHS, Caguas, PR)- Switch hitting MIF with good all around quickness. Quick infield actions, projectable arm strength, quick hands at the plate.


Class of 2015/16

2016 MIF/OF Brandon Chinea (Miami, FL)- Highly advanced for his age, the best class of 2016 prospect we’ve seen to this point. Chinea ran a 6.96 60 yard dash, threw 81 from both the OF and SS and displayed exciting hitting tools. Going to be a fun player to watch develop over the next few years.

2015 1B/RHP John Castro (Blessed Trinity HS, Marietta, GA)- XL frame, strong build. Good bat speed, has raw power potential. Hit 79 on the mound.

2015 SS/OF Brady Manning (Wakeland HS, Frisco, TX)- Quick bat, left handed hitter, projectable hitting tools.

2015 OF Kristian Franklin (Detroit Country Day, Detroit, MI)- Very athletic young player, good defensive skills in the outfield, quick hands at the plate.
