Draft Day Projection

Draft day is upon us, so it’s time to unveil my final mock draft.

1.  Nationals - Bryce Harper, C, College of Southern Nevada
Expect this signing to go all of the way to the mid-August deadline.  Harper’s catching days may be behind him.

2.  Pirates - Manny Machado, SS, Brito Private HS (FL)
This pick is between Machado and Taillon.  The Pirates may be looking for the dynamic SS they’ve been lacking, particularly since passing on B.J. Upton back in 2002.

3.  Orioles - Jameson Taillon, RHP, The Woodlands HS (TX)
The Orioles will choose between Taillon and Machado, whoever the Pirates don’t select between the two.

4.  Royals - Yasmani Grandal, C, Miami
Weekend reports of the Royals coming to a pre-draft agreement with Grandal have been questioned, but they’ve been connected to Grandal before.  Chris Sale could also go here.

5.  Indians - Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast
If Sale makes it here he likely will be the pick.  Otherwise it could be Michael Choice.

6.  Diamondbacks - Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Ole Miss
Pomeranz’ velocity is back up after seeing it dip a little towrds the end of the long college season.  The D-Backs would be happy to see him fall this far.

7.  Mets - Matt Harvey, RHP, North Carolina
Zack Cox is also in play here at this pick, but I think they go with a big, power arm, and Harvey is another player the Mets like.

8.  Astros - Michael Choice, OF, Texas-Arlington
The Astros stay in the state of Texas with their first pick, although they are reportedly looking at a pair of prep bats in Josh Sale and Delino DeShields.

9.  Padres - Kolbrin Vitek, 3B, Ball State
If Vitek isn’t the pick here, look for the Padres to focus on one of the top prep players, possibly righty Karsten Whitson.

10.  Athletics - Justin O'Conner, SS, Cowan HS (IN)
O’Conner has been linked to the A’s quite a bit recently, who could take him as a catcher.

11.  Blue Jays - Karsten Whitson, RHP, Chipley HS (FL)
If Whitson slips this far, I expect the Blue Jays to pick him quickly.  They’ve been connected to a few of the prep bats as well as Christian Colon.

12.  Reds - Christian Colon, SS, Cal State Fullerton
I’m not convinced that Colon goes here, as the Reds have a history of not taking players that could be signability risks.

13.  White Sox - Asher Wojciechowski, RHP, The Citadel
The White Sox are zeroed in on several college arms between Wojciechowski, Brandon Workman, Barret Loux and Alex Wimmers.

14.  Brewers - Jesse Biddle, LHP, Germantown Friends HS (PA)
This spot is really up for grabs, with the Brewers connected to a pair of surprise picks in Biddle and Luke Jackson, Nick Castellanos and a group of college arms, including Anthony Ranaudo.

15.  Rangers - Zack Cox, 3B, Arkansas
Word has it that if Cox makes it this far he won’t make it any further.  The Rangers, like the Brewers, could offer a surprise pick too.

16.  Cubs - Deck McGuire, RHP, Georgia Tech
This is another “if he makes it this far” type of selection.

17.  Rays - Josh Sale, OF, Bishop Blanchet HS (WA)
Sale could go as high as eighth overall to the Astros, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of teams connected to him between that pick and this one.

18.  Angels - Dylan Covey, RHP, Marantha HS (CA)
Covey reportedly has slid down draft boards due to lackluster pefromances late this spring, so the Angels could wait to see if they could nab Covey with one of their two other first-rounders.

19.  Astros - Delino DeShields, IF, Norcross HS (GA)
DeShields very well may be the Astros pick at #8, and with a couple of teams in between their first and second of two first-rounder also interested in DeShields, the Astros should be please to have him last to this pick.

20.  Red Sox - Anthony Ranaudo, RHP, LSU
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ranaudo completely slip out of the first round, but the Red Sox are one team in a position to take him this early.

21.  Twins - Alex Wimmers, RHP, Ohio State
The Twins have been hot on Wimmers all spring, and would be thrilled to see him last this far.

22.  Rangers - Brandon Workman, RHP, Texas
Workman and the Rangers are a natural match, as the proximity and power arm are two things the Rangers value.

23.  Marlins - Luke Jackson, RHP, Calvary HS (FL)
Jackson could go as high as 14th to the Brewers, with the Marlins the other team connected to the rising flame-thrower.  They’re also connected to several college arms.

24.  Giants - Nick Castellanos, 3B, Archbishop McCarthy HS (FL)
It seems as though the Giants are intent on finding a big bat with this pick, although few teams have been successful drafting and developing arms in recent years.

25.  Cardinals - Bryce Brentz, OF, Middle Tennessee State
While the Cardinals seem like to like power arms in the first round, they likely would be pretty pleased to have Brentz make it to their pick.

26.  Rockies - Sammy Solis, LHP, San Diego
The Rockies are linked to a few talented arms, from both the college and prep ranks, as well as Clemson outfielder and dual-sport talent Kyle Parker.

27.  Phillies - Austin Wilson, OF, Harvard Westlake HS (CA)
Wilson is going to be a tough sign, but the Phillies love players with a lot of big tools.

28.  Dodgers - A.J. Cole, RHP, Oviedo HS (FL)
Most seem to think that the Dodgers are going to go conservative with this pick, although I think someone like Cole would sign for slot value.

29.  Angels - Seth Blair, RHP, Arizona State
The Angels could load up on more talented SoCal pitching including arms such as Taijuan Walker, Aaron Sanchez, Adam Plutko and Scott Frazier.  Given all of their early picks, Blair should be somewhat of an easy sign.

30.  Angels - Peter Tago, RHP, Dana Hills HS (CA)
So here’s another one of those talented SoCal prep pitchers I mentioned just above.

31.  Rays - Kellin Deglan, C, R.E. Mountain HS (British Columbia)
Finding a few impact bats in this year’s draft will likely be a priority for the Rays, and getting a corner outfielder and a catcher with their first two picks should make Rays’ fans happy.

32.  Yankees - Tyrell Jenkins, RHP, Henderson HS (TX)
The Yankees don’t spend as much on the draft as many people seem to think, and have a history of taking some conservative picks.  That doesn’t apply to Jenkins, who could opt to go to Baylor to honor his football commitment.

2026 MLB Draft Reports: 100-299 | 200-299 | 300-399 | 400-500 1. Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA R-R, 6-2/202, Chandler, AZ Previously Drafted: Never Drafted   Roch Cholowsky has consistently ranked at the top of the class throughout the cycle due to the safety and upside of the profile. Defensively, he is a plus defender at shortstop with soft hands, consistent actions, and quality range. Not only should he stick at the position long term, he should excel there at the next level. Offensively, there is a strong mix of hit and power potential from the right side of the plate. The swing is a bit unorthodox with a shorter finish, but Cholowsky consistently finds the barrel and drives the ball with authority to all fields. He has strong bat to ball skills with impact. He has walked more than stuck out during his collegiate career, giving him a high on-base ability. The run tool is the...

13u World Series Notes: Days 1-2

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Michael Wedgeworth (2030, Flomaton, AL) had put the two way ability on full display so far this week, dominating from both sides. On the mound Wedgeworth ran the fastball up to 84 (81-83) with ease to the delivery. Broke off a couple nasty curveballs that induced swing and miss, as well as freezing hitters for punch outs. Collected six in his four inning complete game. He also would not be denied at the plate going 3-5 in the first two days with two doubles. Very intriguing young player as the body continues to grow.  Tyler Bellush (2031, Summerville, SC) is a sure handed shortstop for the Canes Nation squad. Swings it from the left side of the plate and the barrel accuracy has really stuck out thus far. 3-4 through the first couple days with a double and two triples, Bellush has also walked twice and collected 3 RBI along the way. Yesterday against USA Prime with the bases loaded,...

Jheremy Brown

Walter Izquierdo Jr. (2031, Miami, Fla.) showed off the upside on the mound for Beast Baseball 13u. The right-handed pitcher went four innings and collected three strikeouts while spreading two hits and two walks for one run. The fastball topped out at 80 and was consistently in the upper- 70s. Showed feel for a curveball with 12-6 shape and some looser vertical depth that was able to get weak contact. Competes in the zone well and showed some feel to work on the arm-side half of the plate. Intriguing upside on the young arm.   Brett Hamlin (2031, Jupiter, Fla.) showed off the barrel feel for FTB American 13u. The left-handed hitter collected nine hits, including two doubles and a triple, to drive in seven RBI. Strong hands and flips the hips well to create good bat speed. He finished the weekend with 9 hits, including two doubles and a home run, while driving in seven runs and scoring five more. 16u Elite Scout Notes: Days 1-2  ‘28 AJ Bonnette (TX) with 7 Ks thru 4 IP thus far, living 89-91 w/ heavy traits. Filling up all four quads & attacking hitters early in counts. He toed the rubber in round two of the playoffs, proceeding to toss six innings with eight punchouts and zero earned runs allowed. The 6-foot southpaw filled up all four quadrants of the strike zone, attacking hitters early and often with his fastball. The heater lived in the 88-91 mph range with heavy traits, often setting up his slurvy breaking ball. Bonnette showed good feel...

Performance Baseball Rolls On

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

JK Select Hawaii Tackles 14u West WS

Emily Hicks
Article Image
JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

"Wow" Swings Catch Eyes at 16u Elite

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...
