#8 C Jose Behar, 2005 Miami Wave .301 AVG; 14 RBI; 22 H
Jose Behar is a catcher with a long, projectable frame and versatility to play a number of positions. Behar showed his sweet swing last season, going 5-13 (.385) against steep competition and with a wood bat at the WWBA Perfect Game 17U Championship at East Cobb. Behar will be expected to be a huge part of a potent Wave offensive attack.
#13 C Ruy Rodriguez, .300-2-16
Ruy Rodriguez oozes leadership from behind the plate and is a plus-defender at the catcher’s spot. The starting catcher at Hialeah since his sophomore season, Ruy has batted .288 and .300 the past two seasons, displaying a quality approach at the plate. Without a doubt, this is the type of player who naturally fits into a leadership role and can energize an entire team.
#26 OF/RHP Angel Sanchez, 2005 Miami Wave .321-1-14; 2 2B; 2 3B
Rated as a high level prospect by Perfect Game, Angel Sanchez demonstrated his potential last summer as one of the Wave’s top offensive threats. In the outfield, Sanchez shows good instincts and has a solid arm with carry, topping out at 86 MPH off the mound. With a muscular build and his above average bat speed, Sanchez should develop power sooner rather than later.
#27 RHP Pablo Vinent, 2005 Miami Wave 3-0 2.53 ERA; .222 BAA
Pablo Vinent returns to the Wave after not having lost a decision a summer ago. A tough competitor who comes after hitters with an aggressive disposition, his smooth mechanics provide consistency and power: Vinent’s fastball tops out at 86 MPH and he throws a very tight, late breaking curve ball. Also a very good student.
#32 RHP Jason Diaz, 2005 Miami Wave 5-2 4.24 ERA; 3 CG, 1 SHO
Jason Diaz looks to capitalize on his stellar second half performance last summer, in which he was the Wave’s best pitcher, winning 3 games and limiting opponents to a .209 BAA in that span. Diaz’s competitive fire and compact, explosive delivery produce a fastball with arm-side bite in the 83-86 MPH range, a hard slider and a changeup. Diaz is also a very good student.
#3 2B/3B Robert Rodriguez, 2nd Team All-Dade
.474-2-29; 9 SB
Robert Rodriguez is primed to improve upon his stellar 2006 HS season where he carried Hialeah to the 6A State Final Four. Robert combines a rock solid 2B build with tremendous bat speed and stellar defense up the middle. He has plus range to both sides with a strong arm and his quick, compact swing produces above average gap power. Top DI prospect.
#42 1B Osmani Sanchez, 2nd Team All-Dade
.379-5-27
Osmani Sanchez not only has the build of a budding DI prospect, he has the skills and credentials to go with it. As a junior this year, Sanchez helped lead Hialeah back to the FHSAA State Final Four, both with outstanding defense at first base and a potent bat. With five homeruns this season and 27 RBI, Sanchez demonstrated that he is a legitimate power threat and will continue to develop into a middle of the lineup hitter at the next level.
#24 CF Drew Sherwood, A true centerfielder who demonstrates an ability to get good jumps and run down balls in the gaps. He also possesses a strong OF arm and is a threat at the plate and on the bases. Sherwood projects as a leadoff hitter and offensive fire starter.
#6 MIF Sean Emory, 2005 Miami Wave 7-12 (.585); 4 RBI; 3 SB
A late addition to the 2005 Wave, Emory has since established himself as an integral part of the offensive attack. The LH batter utilizes a short, quick stroke to hit to the opposite field and is a good leadoff option, working counts and getting on base. Emory has good hands and a strong arm, allowing him to play anywhere in the infield and is a threat on the bases.
#12 SS Luis Llerena, .311-2-15; 7 SB
Luis Llerena has outstanding defensive capabilities and the moves of a quality SS. Already a 2 year varsity starter at SS for the Hialeah High T-Breds, perennial state contenders, Llerena is a leader on the field. A top of the lineup hitter, Luis gets on base at a tremendous clip, where he can use his speed, which has produced 20 SB for the T-Breds the past two seasons.
#17 RHP Logan Dodds, 3rd Team All-Dade
Logan Dodds’ 6’2, 210 frame signals untapped velocity and the ability to take control of a pitching staff. The RHP features an 82-84 MPH fastball, while mixing in a hard breaking ball and change-up. Dodds stays tall through the delivery and throws from a high ¾ slot. Logan is new to the Wave in 2006 and he will look to solidify a starters roll.
