College Baseball is in full swing and some former PG/WWBA players are doing great.

FORMER PERFECT GAME/WWBA STARS IN COLLEGE BASEBALL College baseball is in full swing across the country and it’s always enjoyable to note when former Perfect Game/World Wood Bat Association stars are tearing up at the college level. Here’s a sampling of some of the many that we’ve noticed. Sophomore 2B Warner Jones is putting up Little League numbers as Vanderbilt is off to an 11-1 start. Jones is hitting .511 with 8 doubles, 4 home runs and 27 (!) Rbi’s. Fellow sophomore Jensen Lewis has moved into the starting rotation behind ace Jeremy Sowers (3-0, 0.86) and is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA. Three freshman RHP Pat Bresnehan, RHP Quinten Andes and OF Colin Curtis, have helped Arizona State off to a 15-2 record and #5 national ranking. Bresnehan is 3-0 with 3 saves in 8 appearances as the Sun Devils closer, while Andes is 2-0. Curtis has started all 17 games and is hitting .339, 4, 16 with 15 walks and 7 steals. Notre Dame’s team looks like a PG alumni list. 7-2 RHP Ryan Doherty has settled in as the Fighting Irish closer and is 2-0, 1.80 with a save for the 9-1 team. SS Matt Macri is hitting .385, 1, 11. Two freshmen have not surprisingly moved to the front of the North Carolina starting rotation and are leading the 10-3 Tar Heels. LHP Andrew Miller and RHP Daniel Bard both turned down $1M+ bonus offers out of high school and are now both 2-0 at the start of their college careers. Miller sports a 0.55 ERA, while Bard’s is an equally impressive 1.33. LHP Mark Romanczuk was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week last week, the fourth time the sophomore has won that award in his young career. Romanczuk is off to a 4-1, 3.31 start. Fellow sophomore John Mayberry Jr. is hitting .333, 4, 19. RHP Sean Watson, the Most Valuable Pitcher at the 2003 WWBA National Championship, has already moving into the starting rotation at 13-2 Tennessee. Watson is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA. The co-Most Valuable Player at the 2003 WWBA National Championship, Adam Davis, is the starting second baseman at 15-3 Florida. Davis is hitting .295, 1, 3 in 16 starts, leads the team with 7 steals and has only made 3 errors in the field. Two sophomores, 3B Alex Gordon and LHP Zach Kroenke, lead Nebraska’s team. Gordon is hitting .459, 3, 15 in 9 games, while Kroenke is 2-0, 3.38 in 3 starts as the Cornhusker’s #1 starter. Junior RHP Thomas Diamond of New Orleans has established himself as a potential first round pick this June. He’s 2-2, 2.51 with 38 K’s in 32 innings so far this season. Another potential 1st round pick this year, LHP Chris Lambert of Boston College, is off to a tough luck start. Lambert is 0-2 in 3 starts but has a 2.37 ERA and has only allowed 8 hits in 19 innings. Harlan, Iowa native Zach Daeges, a sophomore outfielder, leads Creighton in all three triple crown categories at .439, 1, 10. TODAY’S PROFILE……… INDIANA YANKEES The Indiana Yankees were one of the surprise teams of the summer in World Wood Bat Association events. They came out of nowhere to take 3rd place in the WWBA Senior Championship in Marietta, GA in July, defeating the host and heavily favored East Cobb Astros in the playoffs before running out of pitching by the semifinals. They also finished 2nd in the Kernels Foundation Championship in Cedar Rapids, IA over Labor Day weekend. The Yankees also won four other tournaments, bringing their two-year total to 7 tournament victories and their two-year won-loss record to 93-29-2. According to their coach, Buddy Swift, the Yankees were founded in 1998 as a Fall only Under 18 select team. Since then they have expanded to include programs in six different age groups and Swift has purchased the United States Baseball Congress and begun to expand that as well. More on the US Baseball Congress below. The Yankees draw almost all their players from Southern Indiana and Northern Kentucky and play out of fields in Evansville and Princeton, Indiana. Swift played college baseball at University of Southern Indiana, then was a player and coach with the Evansville Outlaws semi-pro team for 8 years, so his Southern Indiana roots run deep. He takes pride in the fact that his teams “have a hard nosed Midwestern mentality.” Anyone who has seen the Yankees play know this is true. There probably isn’t a more aggressive base running team in the country and Swift’s players play hard and with great fundamentals. Swift, who also works as an associate scout with the Atlanta Braves, is assisted by Bob Snyder, a Seattle Mariners associate scout. Snyder coached at the junior college level for 13 years and has 34 years experience coaching in American Legion ball. The team’s star player, SS Eric Campbell, is well known to WWBA followers, not to mention pro scouts from around the country. He was named the Most Valuable Player at both WWBA tournaments the Yankees participated in and also won the Home Run contest at the prestigious AFLAC All-American game in August. Campbell has a chance to be a high draft pick next June. There is more than Campbell to the Yankees, though. C-CF Edwin Roman is also well known to the scouting community for his outstanding power/speed combination. 2004 graduates RHP Ryan Mantooth, 3B Derrick Alfonso, OF Brent Davidson, RHP Wes Seib and OF Kellen Higgenson have starred at various points during the year and OF-LHP Jeremy Kuester (2005) and 3B Dan Black (2006) ensure that the program has talent for the future. Overall, Swift estimates that about 90% of the Indiana Yankees players receive baseball scholarship money to attend junior college or 4-year schools. Interestingly, the first two Yankees players who were chosen in the professional draft we Taylor Mattingly and Ryan Spilman, both in 2003. Mattingly is the son of former New York Yankee great Don Mattingly and Spilman the son of former Major Leaguer and present Houston Astros hitting coach Harry Spilman. Spilman is a staff members of another Swift venture, Pro Player Camps, along with Kentucky native and Expos outfielder Brad Wilkerson. It was mentioned above that Swift purchased the United States Baseball Congress last year. The USBC is a 10 year old organization that has previously run events in the Under 18 age group. Swift immediately set about to create a division called the United States Wood Bat Congress and to expand into more age divisions. Probably the best way to portray the US Wood Bat Congress is to simply repost the tournament information provided by Swift. U.S. WOOD BAT CONGRESS WORLD SERIES Age: 18 & Under Class: N/A Date: July 21, 2004 - July 25, 2004 Place: Evansville, Indiana 47715 Directions Information: United States Wood Bat Congress World Series, a division of USBC, to be held in Evansville, IN. He finished the weekend with 9 hits, including two doubles and a home run, while driving in seven runs and scoring five more. Performance Baseball Rolls On

Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...

The New York native and primary shortstop topped out at 93 with the fastball, sitting comfortable in the 90-92 range. Corona paired it with a sharp and tight slider at 81-83, staying on the same plane until late. The pitch plays well already and the delivery is very athletic. The uncommitted right-hander went three scoreless and was in the zone plenty, striking out two while not allowing a walk.
