17u WWBA Invades Georgia

One of the most highly anticipated events of the summer, the PG 17u WWBA National Championships, begins this week as over 380 total teams from across the country travel to Atlanta, Georgia from June 23-29 to compete for one of the most prestigious titles in travel baseball. The 17u division showcases over 60 nationally ranked teams with over 30 states being represented in the draw. With summer travel season being in full swing, all eyes will be on East Cobb Baseball Complex as some of the top talent in the nation will be on full display this week.

The overall top ranked 17u squad, USA Prime National/Detroit Tigers Scout Team, will be in the spotlight this week as they look to remain undefeated in their summer and win back-to-back highly touted tournaments at Perfect Game hotspots. The team is made up of an astounding 22 college commits and 4 T10 ranked players for their respective classes. Outfielder Dexter Mcleon Jr. is the No. 1 overall ranked player in the class of 2028 and is currently uncommitted but has already gotten off to a hot start this summer for his USA Prime team and will no doubt turn more scout’s heads this weekend. Chase Fuller (‘28 No. 2 ranked nationally) is a Florida State commit for the shortstop position who will be another player to keep eyes on throughout the week along with No. 7 ranked athlete, outfielder Jordin Griffin who is a LSU commit. Carter Hadnot is another top ranked shortstop (No. 5 overall nationally) for the team, but Hadnot is still classified as unranked despite receiving a great deal of attention from top colleges.

Another storied program in the East Cobb Astros will make a lot of noise throughout the tournament as well as the No. 2 overall team is coming off a 5-1 week at the 18u WWBA Championships after suffering a heartbreaking 1-run loss in the quarterfinals while playing up a division. The top ranked athlete out of Mississippi from the ‘27 class, Sullivan Reed, is one of the top players on the Astros at the hot corner along with Tennessee commit, Caden Dawson, who shows off a powerful bat from the outfield position. East Cobb has already won one tournament so far this summer at the 17u PG Southeast Elite Championship, but it would come as a shock to many if the highly ranked team did not make another deep run in bracket play.

Wow Factor/Blue Jays Scout Team has already drawn a lot of attention from teams this summer as although the team has played just one Perfect Game tournament thus far into the season, they hold the No. 3 overall ranking coming into this week. It is clear why there is such high praise for this team though as three of the T10 players from the ‘27 class all compete for Wow Factor. Connor Salerno is the top ranked southpaw in his class and is a Mississippi State commit who will look to lead his team to the championship while on the mound. No. 8 ranked prospect and Tennessee infielder commit, Max Hemenway, and Jake Turner, No. 9 ranked athlete and TCU outfielder commit, are names to look for while at the plate after strong starts to the young season.

The overall No. 1 athlete in the class of 2027, Dylan Seward, is a shortstop and future Tennessee Volunteer who will represent Canes National/NY Mets Scout Team this week. Canes is the No. 4 ranked team with many more top ranked athletes from all around the country, and despite a disappointing week at last week’s tournament by going .500, they will be a team to look for when bracket play begins with Seward in the spotlight.

Despite being one of the more underrated teams of the week rankings wise, FTB Phillies 2027 (No. 100 nationally) will look to compete with the other top squads in hopes of winning their first trophy of the summer after a runner-up finish last week. This FTB team showcases many powerful bats as well as top ranked players to match up with other teams such as No. 3 ranked Florida outfield commit, Kinon Bastian, and uncommitted middle infielder, No. 6 ranked Aiden Kearney.

The East Cobb Astros 16u squad are one of the only teams playing up in the 17u division this week, but they are definitely not a team to overlook as the No. 9 ranked 16u program carries a very impressive 12-1 record while competing in 17u events. The Astros also carry the top player out of Georgia from their respective classes as Bryan Johnson Jr. representing the 2030 class, and Georgia Tech commit Malachi Butler from the class of 2027.

With one of the deepest and most talented fields assembled all summer, the 2026 PG 17u WWBA National Championship is once again set to showcase the very best travel baseball has to offer. High-level competition will be on display throughout the week as pool play gives way to the bracket style tournament, ultimately leading one team to emerge victorious at East Cobb Baseball Complex on Monday evening.

WWBA Freshman Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 James Watson (2030, Canton, Ga.) showed the two-way upside to start bracket play for East Cobb Astros 15u. On the mound the right-handed pitcher went three innings and with three strikeouts and spread five hits and two walks for three runs. Watson works from a hybrid windup from the middle-of-the-rubber into a small heel-turn and an around-the-belt leg lift before using drop-and-drive back leg mechanics into a longer, in-line stride down the mound. Showed some feel to get extension down the mound. The hands separate into a moderate arm action before accelerating through from an over-the-top arm angle. The fastball ran up to 86 with arm-side run and life. Paired it with a curveball with 11-5 shape and solid two-plane break. Mixed in a change-up in the upper- 70s with some vertical depth. Competed at the top of the zone well. Athletic...

WWBA Freshman Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 Carson Garzaniti (2029, Jupiter, Fla.) showed the barrel feel all game for West Boynton Cobras. WWBA World Championship Notes: Day 1 ‘27 C Joshua Digulio (TX) opened the morning in Cacti Park with a bang. In his first at-bat of the morning, Digulio crushed an 0-2 fastball. The right-handed hitter powered a fly-ball through the Florida morning humidity off the back wall of the left field bullpen for a no-doubt solo shot. Everybody in the stadium knew it was gone as soon as he made contact. The catcher also worked a walk in his only other plate appearance. His home run was the only hit in the game, providing Texas Brigade 2027 a 1-0 win.  ‘27 MIF Xavier Martin (IL) woke up the stadium with an electric swing. The right-handed hitter was sitting dead-red on a 2-0 heater, got it, and torched it. Martin scorched a line drive all the way over the left field bullpen, as the ball cleared a near 20-foot wall and bounced onto the concourse. It was a two-run shot for the...
