"Houston, We Nave a Problem"

Some moments set the tone for an entire game. For Jackson Nave, it happened in his very first trip to the plate.

The Sevierville, Tennessee native stepped into the batter’s box looking for a pitch he could drive. A few moments later, the ball was flying over the fence, giving FTB Phillies 13U an early boost and igniting what would become a dominant offensive performance.



“I was feeling good,” Nave said. “I was just trying to find a pitch I could hammer. I kept my eye on it, took it down the middle and that felt good.”

That swing was only the beginning. Nave finished the game with a home run, four runs scored, and four RBI as FTB Phillies 13U rolled to a 27-4 victory on the opening day of the 2026 PG 13U National Elite Championship.

For Nave, getting the offense started early is an important part of helping his team succeed.

“I think it is really important to start early and get it out early, so you have more momentum going into the end instead of starting slow and it being kind of dead,” he said.

Momentum was certainly not an issue for the Phillies. The lineup exploded for 27 runs and produced offense throughout the order. Jaxson Luikart led the charge with three hits, including a triple and a home run, while Christopher Domenech and Chase Welch each collected three-hit performances of their own.

The power display was especially impressive, as the Phillies launched three home runs during the game.

“It was fun,” Nave said. “We were all having a good time. Just a lot of energy and we hit great in the cage before the game, so it was a pretty good game.”

The energy has become a defining characteristic of this FTB Phillies club. While the roster is made up of players from different states across the South and East Coast, the group comes together seamlessly each time they take the field. Despite not practicing together regularly, the players have built strong chemistry and consistently play with enthusiasm and confidence.

Their opening-day performance showed exactly what can happen when that chemistry clicks.

Some of the more memorable moments from Nave’s game don't happen in the batter’s box. After making a play at third base and recording an out, Nave has a signature move that always brings a smile.

“Gotta show the umpire the ball,” he said with a grin. “Gotta show you have the ball.”

A turn of the glove displaying the ball might seem like a small detail, but it is one that captures the joy and personality he brings to the game.

Although players at the 13U level are not yet nationally ranked, Nave has already earned a High Follow status from Perfect Game, a reflection of the potential he continues to show on the field.

With the tournament just getting underway, the Phillies have plenty of baseball left to play. After opening with a statement win and an offensive explosion that included 19 runs in a single inning, the team is carrying plenty of confidence into the rest of the week.

“Feels really good,” Nave said. “Scoring 19 runs in one inning is pretty awesome, so I think it will carry over into the next few days, and we’ll have a good tournament.”

If the first game was any indication, FTB Phillies 13U has every reason to be excited about what’s ahead.

The landscape of the MLB Draft continues to evolve each and every year. What teams value at the top of the draft can change based on the strength of a particular class, shifts in player development philosophy, and, perhaps most importantly, the way organizations evaluate risk and upside. Some trends are subtle, while others become impossible to ignore when viewed across multiple years. For this study, I set out to answer one question: What player profiles do teams value at the top of the draft? To answer it, I analyzed the Top-100 picks from each of the last six drafts (2021-2026).
