Hunter Brown - 2026 RHP, North Hunterdon Reg (N.J.) was utterly dominant in his start against Franklin last month, tossing six shutout innings with 15 strikeouts, zero walks and just two hits allowed. The 6-foot-5 215-pound right-hander has pitched to a 0.97 ERA this spring with 78 punchouts over 36 innings of work. Brown has been one of the many northeast arms receiving increasingly more buzz ahead of the MLB Draft this July. Brown’s heater lived in the low-90s throughout the duration of his outing last week, touching 93 mph twice in the early innings. His fastball runs well to the arm-side with life picking up on the pitch pretty late. His go-to secondary offering was an 11-5 curveball with tight spin and shape to it. The pitches complimented each other perfectly, while both showing spin up to 2600 rpm. The Penn State commit also mixed in a shorter slider and fading changeup that killed spin effectively. His stuff was too much for opposing hitters to handle, often resulting in out-of-character whiffs or frozen barrels. Despite his towering frame at 18-years old, Brown utilizes an athletic operation on the mound with fluidity present in his mechanics. He repeats his lower-half actions extremely well while creating effortless acceleration into release. The top-ranked right-hander in New Jersey has quietly been climbing up Draft Boards given his recent performances.

Ryan Auten - 2026 LHP, Immaculata (N.J.) turned in a stellar performance on the mound versus Ridge last month, pitching a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts, zero walks and just two hits allowed. The 6-foot-6 215-pound southpaw opened up the game in the 92-93 mph range, pounding the outer-third of the strike zone with his running fastball. He occasionally went to his upper-70s sweeper, which showed tight break on the horizontal axis. He was successful at locating the breaking pitch for strikes, keeping hitters mistimed and guessing in the box. Auten’s changeup earned plenty of swings and misses from right-handed bats, fading late and heavily away from the barrel. The big lefty moves well down the slope with excellent use of his long levers, which allows him to create big extension out front. He also repeats his lower-half movements and arm action, making it difficult for hitters to pick up on spin. Auten has demonstrated elite feel for commanding the strike zone with more velocity to project on as he adds more strength to his frame. He has pitched to a 0.83 ERA this spring with 85 punchouts and just 11 walks allowed across 42.1 innings of work.

Alex Famolari - 2026 RHP/IF, North Hunterdon Reg (N.J.) has been putting together a special season on both sides of the ball this spring. The 6-foot right-hander has pitched to a 1.06 ERA with 59 punchouts over 33 innings of work. His fastball lives in low-90s, having been up to 94 mph with good life through the zone. He has an advanced feel for locating his fastball as well as his secondary offerings throughout the strike zone. At the plate, Famolari is hitting .440 with 26 runs scored and 16 extra-base hits. He swings a loud and consistent barrel with excellent feel for creating leverage out front. The Yale commit produces frequent carry and backspin to the middle of the field, with the baseball often ending up in the alleyways for extra bases. Famolari’s recent numbers and two-way potential make him such an intriguing prospect with plenty of versatility in the profile.

Andre Love - 2026 RHP, Monroe Twp (N.J.) has been off to an impressive senior campaign for the Falcons, posting a 3.33 ERA with 64 strikeouts across 33.2 innings of work. The 6-foot-4 225-pound right-hander looks every bit of the part on the mound with a dynamic three-pitch arsenal to show for. He was recently up to 92 mph with his fastball, which showed heaviness through the zone and spin around 2300 rpm. Love showcased the ability to pitch backwards as well, dropping in his 11-5 curveball for strikes both early and late in at-bats. The breaking pitch is very tight with abrupt depth and tilt, frequently inducing hesitant swings and misses from opposing hitters. The Georgia commit also mixed in a sharp-acting splitter with impressive tumble action to the arm-side and spin around 1700 rpm. It served as an effective change-of-pace pitch, particularly against left-handed batters in two-strike counts. Love’s ability to command the strike zone has steadily improved, and now that he appears to be in full-health, more and more intrigue is starting to surround the future Bulldog.

James Fenton - 2028 RHP/CIF, Metuchen (N.J.) has been pitching exceptionally well for Metuchen this spring, posting a 1.09 ERA with 88 strikeouts and just 13 walks across 45 innings of work. The 6-foot-4 right-hander has evidently added lean strength to his frame over the past year, along with a few ticks to his heater, which now lives comfortably in the 90-92 mph range. Fenton’s most recent outing was a one-hit complete game shutout with 15 punchouts. He is a fluid mover down the slope with low-pulse actions present as he accelerates into release. His athleticism and body control are very impressive parts of his profile, given his stature. The sophomore pitcher has taken a very impressive leap, quickly becoming a top 2028 arm in the Mid-Atlantic region. With continued progression and additional strength, Fenton could certainly creep into the mid-90s by his senior year. He makes for an extremely intriguing arm with plenty of upside and projection remaining.

Vanderbilt commit Keller Bradley (’26, PA) was stellar over three innings of work, striking out eight while failing to allow a baserunner. Bradley works from a lengthy right-handed frame with projection, starting with a mid-body handset. He then transitions into a high leg lift before firing down the mound via a quick arm action and high three-quarters slot. The Pennsylvania product worked a lively fastball up to 95, maintaining 91-93, showcasing cut/ride actions. Bradley mixed in three secondaries, starting with a sharp two-plane slider with feel to land. He sequenced in a vertical 11-5 curveball with late two-plane bite, flashing the ability to kill spin on a firmer change-up.

Appalachian State commit Jimmy Gallagher (’26, NJ) completed a five-inning mercy rule no hitter, striking out an impressive 13. He starts over the face before working to the belt and into a high hanging leg lift. The New Jersey native fires down the mound via a long arm action and high three-quarters slot. Gallagher possesses a medium right-handed frame with length and strength in the lower half. The Mountaineers recruit displayed an advanced four-pitch mix, starting with a run/ride fastball that reached 90 and has been higher in other spurts. His go-to secondary is a tight 11-5 breaking ball with two-plane bite and feel to land, producing whiffs and frozen looks. Gallagher deepens his mix via a tight mid-80s cutter and change-up.

Delaware commit Daniel Passalacqua (’26, NJ) turned in a strong start on the mound late last month, striking out eight over five scoreless frames. The South Jersey righty works from a medium frame with strength throughout, working exclusively from the stretch. He starts with a mid-body handset before utilizing a higher compact LL, firing down the mound via a compact and quick arm action. Passalacqua got a run/ride fastball up to 92, producing whiffs at the top of the zone. He compliments the heater with a sharp two-plane breaking ball with confidence and feel to land. The Blue Hens recruit rounds out the arsenal with a tumbling change-up that he kills significant spin on.

Charleston Southern commit Tyler Rodgers (’26, NJ) worked five strong innings against a tough lineup, striking out five. Rodgers operates from a medium frame with length, pointing to projection. He starts above the belt before utilizing a medium and direct leg lift, firing down the mound via a quick and compact arm action. Rodgers’ repertoire starts with a cut fastball that reached 88 with late and tight horizontal bite. The South Jersey product primarily worked with a sharp two-plane slider with late bite. Rodgers has collected 15 strikeouts over 11 innings of work, owning a 2.55 ERA.

Uncommitted right-hander Jude Morgan (’26, NJ) is an up-arrow arm out of the Northeast, assuming the “ace” role for a talented Gloucester Catholic team. He completed a seven-inning complete game shutout against a rival, striking out eleven. The outing lowered his season ERA to 3.09, collecting 38 strikeouts over 34 innings pitched. Morgan works from a medium lengthy frame with room to fill, starting over the face before transitioning to the belt. He fires down the mound via a long reach back arm action and true three-quarters slot. Morgan ran his fastball up to 88 and has seen the low-90s, with jump from the hand and riding life. He mixes in a sharp two-plane slider and fading change-up that he sells well.

Delaware commit Tim Dougherty (’26, NJ) has posted dominant numbers throughout the spring, striking out 40 in 25.2 innings, owning a 1.09 ERA. He operates from a bigger southpaw frame with projectable length and lower half strength. Dougherty start over the face before quickly working to the belt and into a high and pronounced leg lift. He gets down the hill via a long arm action and low three-quarters slot. The South Jersey native worked a run/ride heater up to 90 with late arm-side run. Dougherty mixes in a sweeping slider with confidence to land, along with a late fading change-up.

Aiden Ruiz - 2026 SS, Stony Brook (N.Y.) was stellar on both sides of the ball—to no surprise—at the Mid-Atlantic Private School Championship tournament. The switch-hitting shortstop has garnered a ton of draft buzz over the past year with the expectation of his name getting called before the conclusion of round one this July. His footwork and hands in the dirt are truly something special. Ruiz made several crisp plays on slow rollers and balls up the middle, showcasing the ability to hit the first baseman in the chest from any arm angle. He covers a ton of ground at shortstop—and any arm strength concerns are hollow given how quick he gets the ball out of his glove. Offensively, Ruiz showed off his ability to drive baseballs into either alleyway for extra bases. He takes a pro-like approach in the box with excellent feel for handling velocity and reading spin. Ruiz has the best bat-to-ball skills in the class with tons of bat speed and effortless feel to adjust the barrel. He frequently extends counts in the leadoff spot until he gets his pitch, making for an extremely tough out for opposing pitchers. He hardly ever swings and misses, and has proven his versatility with some occasional small-ball as well. His speed and IQ on the basepaths stood out as much as his other tools. Ruiz has put together a special senior campaign for the Bears this spring, and he’ll likely continue to climb up boards ahead of the Draft this July.

Ricky Lopez - 2027 SS, Ranney (N.J.) capped off his performance at the Mid-Atlantic Private School Championship tournament in a loud way. The LSU commit got a hold of a fastball and drove it into the left-center gap for an in-the-park grand slam. He utilizes a synced-up operation in the box with a well-controlled leg lift for timing. The righty-hitting Lopez showcased excellent plate discipline with an advanced feel to manipulate the barrel throughout the strike zone. He can really do damage to the pull-side and backspin baseballs for distance. Defensively, Lopez showed off his lateral range and elite hands in the dirt as per usual. He sports a very reliable glove with an innate ability to adjust it on the run. He shows up on the highlight reel often, making several difficult plays appear routine. Lopez is hitting .366 on the year for the Panthers with five homers and 22 RBI. His name will certainly be one receiving buzz during this time next year.

USA Prime Claims 17U Title in Thriller

Alyssa Golden

USA Prime Tampa Scout 2027 edged VSA Scout 17U 4-3 Monday afternoon, using strong defense and a walk-off RBI from Bryce Flemming to secure the title. A light breeze helped cool down an otherwise warm afternoon at JetBlue Park during the championship game. USA Prime jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning to apply early pressure on VSA. VSA responded behind relief pitcher Finlee Crowder, who settled the game down after entering in the second inning and helped keep his team within reach as the game turned into a back-and-forth battle. VSA eventually battled back to tie the game at 3-3, but several momentum-shifting defensive plays from USA Prime catcher Marcello Fraccola helped preserve the tie throughout the middle innings. “I feel like a huge motivator on the team,” Fraccola said. “The catcher is a big position on the field. You have to make...

Field of 64 Projections

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
The 2026 season was one of the most exciting and unpredictable editions of college baseball in recent memory, and as quickly as it flew by, we are ready to start the “Road to Omaha”.  After hours of deliberation, we are ready to release our projected region field and “Field of 64” as we see it.  The UCLA Bruins (51-6) start us off as the anticipated No. 1 National Seed as they put the finishing touches on a historic season, including a 27-game win streak, a Big 10 Regular Season title and Big 10 Tournament championship.  The Big 10 looks like they will have (4) teams in the field, with (3) host sights, representing the West Coast well.  The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (48-9) should secure the No. 2 Nation Seed and lead the charge for (8) teams from the ACC in the field with (3) of them securing host opportunities.  Meanwhile, the Georgia...

The Insidious Lie That Hurts Pitchers Thep Most How many of you have ever had a terrible outing and afterward couldn’t really explain what went wrong? And how many of you have ever had a great outing and couldn’t explain what you did differently either? That gap between what is happening and your awareness of what is happening may be one of the most important gaps in player development. Closing that gap has a name. It is called metacognition. In simple terms, metacognition means thinking about your thinking. It is the ability to understand how you learn, how you perform, how you respond under pressure, and how you make adjustments when things are not going your way. For a pitcher, that matters because no matter how good your coach is, he cannot stand on the mound with you. Your coach cannot take the ball with the bases loaded, two outs, and the best hitter in the league...
