2028 MLB Draft Prospects:

Jackson Shepelsky, RHP, Lehigh
Ben Hermann, IF/RHP, Lafayette

Army West Point: Head Coach Chris Tracz led the Black Knights to the program’s seventh consecutive championship appearance, falling just short of capturing another Patriot league title. His team will be returning a lot of key offensive contributors in 2026 including the senior shortstop Thomas Schreck who started every game for the Black Knights, leading the team with a .335 batting average. Schreck was named to the First Team All-Patriot League alongside veteran outfielders Chris Barr and William Parker. The team’s swiss army knife Barr led the offense with 64 hits, 44 runs and 32 stolen bases. Parker also finished the year above .300, adding a team-high 15 doubles and six home runs. Another pair of proven seniors comes in the form of catcher Jack Quinlan and outfielder Addison Ainsworth—who were named to the Second Team All-Patriot League after impressive junior campaigns on both sides of the ball. The Black Knight’s ace Andrew Berg will be returning for his senior season after posting a 2.39 ERA and 1.12 WHIP across seven starts in league play—a campaign worthy of First Team All-Patriot League honors. A couple of right-handers that saw varied action on Army’s pitching staff last year are junior Robbie Penswick and senior Trey Ates. The pair could see a bigger workload this spring. With a ton of talent returning in 2026, the Black Knights are seeking to win their seventh league title in eight seasons.

Bucknell: Head coach Scott Heather and his program look to bounce back in 2026 and potentially compete for a league title this May. Right-hander Jake Schultz will take on the role of ace as he returns to the Bison rotation after missing the majority of 2025 due to injury. Sophomore Everett Garber and the 6-foot-7 junior Jonathan Adelmann—who posted a 2.65 ERA with 46 strikeouts across relief 34.0 innings—could see starts early on this spring. Adelmann earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors last season and looks to build on that in 2026 as he prepares for a starting role. Designated hitter Michael Trommer—who led the team in homers and RBI last season—will be a key returner to the offense in 2026. He swings a consistent and powerful bat, making him a likely contender for a breakout campaign. The speedy centerfielder Billy Fluharty and veteran Ryan Facinelli bring more consistency and versatility to the top of Bucknell’s order. A second-year prospect to keep eyes on this spring is first baseman Lleyton Coupe, who could make an immediate impact on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Heather and his staff look to lead the Bison back near the top of the league this spring.

Holy Cross: Ed Kahovec was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in back-to-back seasons after leading Holy Cross to their second league title in program history. The Crusaders defeated Army West Point in the championship series, ending their streak of six consecutive titles. The Crusaders will enter the 2026 season with a talented and familiar roster that can certainly two-peat this May. Last year’s Patriot League Player of the Year CJ Egrie will return to the outfield, alongside the speedy centerfielder Gianni Royer and power-hitting John LaFleur. The senior Egrie hit .398 in conference play, scoring 37 runs on 15 extra-base hits. Royer finished his sophomore campaign with 43 runs and 24 stolen bases. A freshman to keep eyes on this season is the physical lefty hitter Nick Anderson who swings a dangerous bat. The Patriot League Pitcher of the Year Jaden Wywoda will be returning for his senior season after posting a 3.10 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in conference play. He racked up 40 strikeouts over 40.2 innings, finishing with a perfect 7-0 record. The sophomore duo of Thomas Skrobe and southpaw Derek Volz will be counted on to eat up innings early on for the Crusaders. Skrobe will be healthy and back in the rotation after missing the majority of last season due to injury. Holy Cross looks to build off a dominant 2025 season and defend their title this spring.

Lafayette: A.J. Miller enters his fourth season as head coach of the Leopards with the hope of making it back into the Patriot League tournament this May. The pitching staff will be led by the 6-foot-6 junior Tristan Helmick who made 10 starts in 2025, finishing third on the team in strikeouts with 49. The senior left-hander Trace Florio and Bryant transfer Trey Deitelbaum could also see starts early on for this Leopards’ pitching staff. Florio struck out 56 batters through 60.1 innings of work a year ago. Junior Ben Waterman and the 6-foot-5 sophomore Kellen Moore are a couple of right-handers that will likely be counted on in the back-end of the bullpen. Waterman made 18 appearances as a sophomore, striking out a batter per inning thrown. The Leopards’ outfield has veteran presence and prowess across the board. The senior Bode Grieve and sophomore Jack Mislan will guard the corners while bringing legitimate power tools to the top of the lineup. Mislan led the league in home runs as a freshman last year with eight, and looks to build off that campaign in year two. Another returner comes in the form of Matt Colella, who started nearly every game at shortstop during his time at Lafayette. Playing alongside Colella in the middle-infield will likely be Alex Barrist—another experienced sophomore with advanced bat-to-ball skills. Barrist hit .298 with a league-high five triples in 2025. The Leopards have the perfect blend of talent and experience, making them a credible candidate to reach the league playoff this spring.

Lehigh: 3x Patriot League Coach of the Year Sean Leary enters his 31st season in charge of Lehigh’s baseball program. The Mountain Hawks went 11-14 last season, making the league tournament as the no. 4 seed before falling just one game shy of a championship appearance. The offense will likely be ignited by the veteran Dom Patrizi—who will move to the outfield this spring. The designated hitter Aidan Quinn and second baseman Ryan Cochran bring lots of tools to the top of the Mountain Hawks’ lineup. The senior Quinn hit .345 with a team-high six home runs and 49 RBI. He finished first in the league with a .536 slugging percentage in 2026 while earning First Team All-Patriot League honors. The pitching staff is loaded with talented arms that put up solid numbers last year. The team’s ace Cole Leaman has been up to 98 mph and garnered a lot of attention from professional scouts. The 6-foot-4 sophomore Noah Gyauch-Quirk turned in a 4.15 ERA with 30 strikeouts across 26.0 innings as a rookie. Liam O’Hearen is another right-hander with a very advanced pitch arsenal and the potential to play a big role on the pitching staff this spring. Cole Kochanowicz was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League after putting together a special freshman campaign. The right-hander posted a 3.12 ERA and 1.33 WHIP throughout 13 appearances last season. The Mountain Hawks enter the 2026 season with an extremely talented rotation and a lot of reliable leather to back them up.

Navy: Chuck Ristano enters year no. 3 as head coach of the Midshipmen and looks to lead the program to their first league title since 2016. A couple of key offensive contributors that will be returning to Coach Ristano’s lineup are second baseman Evan Brown and the sophomore backstop Ty DePerno—who earned Patriot League Rookie of the Year honors after posting a .329 average in conference play. Victor Izquierdo and Patrick Walsh will likely guard the corners of the infield and bring the power to this Navy offense. The rookie Walsh has the potential to put together a loud season at the plate. Outfielder Andrew Manning is another valuable returner to this lineup that swings a potent bat. He was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League in 2025 after leading the Midshipmen in homers and runs scored. The pitching rotation will likely be headed by the 6-foot-4 right-hander Matt Archibald who pitched to a 2.45 ERA in conference play last year. Another reliable righty comes in the form of Brady Bendik who posted a 3.95 ERA with 62 punchouts over 73.0 innings of work, and earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors. Tyler Grenn turned in a stellar sophomore campaign in 2024 and seeks to return to that form this spring. With loads of firepower on both sides of the ball, Navy makes for a real threat to win it all this spring.

PG Draft: Favorite Position Group

Tyler Henninger
Article Image
Every draft class has its strengths. Some years its a loaded group of prep infielders, some years its a deep collection of college arms. In this year’s class, certain position groups stand out above the rest to us. This week, the draft team dives into their favorite position groups. Groups that we believe are loaded with depth, upside, and big league potential. College Infielders It’s hard not to get excited about the crop of college infielders in this year’s class because of who is at the top. Roch Cholowsky alone makes the group exciting. He’s got gold glove potential at the next level and an offensive profile that should make him one of the Top 15 to 20 prospects in all of baseball the second he gets drafted. Justin Lebron is another player with as much upside in the class. He is a premium athlete that can really pick it at short and has big upside with the...

Wolforth Throwing Mentorship: Article 64

Ron Wolforth
Article Image
What Do Barry Zito, Justin Verlander, Trevor Bauer, and Dallas Keuchel All Have in Common? By Ron Wolforth | Texas Baseball Ranch® | PG Arm Care Take a second and think about the question posed in the title before you read on. Four Cy Young Award winners. Four of the most decorated pitchers of their generation. What's the common thread? The first answer is obvious… they all won the most prestigious individual award in pitching. Most of you probably got there immediately. The second answer is less obvious… they all trained at the Texas Baseball Ranch® at some point in their development. Interesting, maybe, but not the point of this article. The third answer is the one I really want you to sit with, because it has direct relevance to your career right now: they all move completely differently. And they all attack hitters completely differently. Don't rush past that....

That's really all you need to know. Oh, and the opposing team arrived 40 minutes late. Coming off a state-championship run in basketball, Texas signee Brody Bumila made his first start of the spring on April 2nd and didn't disappoint in front of at least 40 scouts packed tightly together behind the backstop.  Knowing it was going to be a quicker look given...

DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 8

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
We are past the midpoint of the college baseball season and the stakes are rising by the week. Conference races are tightening, schedules are getting harder, and the résumés that will matter in the selection room are being written right now — one series at a time. This week's most significant development came in Division II, where North Greenville swept Young Harris in three consecutive one-run games to claim the top spot for the first time this season, knocking Tampa from a perch they've held most of the year. It's a genuine changing of the guard at the top, and it's exactly the kind of shakeup that makes this stretch of the season worth paying close attention to. Across all three divisions the picture is coming into focus. In Division I NAIA, Georgia Gwinnett remains the standard while Taylor and Cumberlands continue to make their cases from behind. In Division III,...

Iowa Spring League Notes: Week 1

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell (2027, Atkins, Iowa) was solid on both sides of the ball this weekend. He was able to show a clean move working into it, with the feel to impact it out in front and drive hard through contact. He had good barrel accuracy with feel to drive the ball well, especially working pull-side. He was 4-for-8 on the weekend with a double to his credit, driving in 7 runs as well. Mitchell-Birdsell also put together a good outing on the mound, delivering 2 innings of scoreless work with 3 punchouts. He worked the low 80s with some run, flashing a mid-70s curveball with good 11-5 shape and depth.  Maddux Mueller (2026, Amana, Iowa) LH bat with plenty to like in the batter’s box, and he put together a solid showing this weekend. He finished 2-for-3 with a double, demonstrating both contact ability and the capacity to drive the baseball for extra bases. Mueller...

College Players of the Week: April 7

Craig Cozart
Article Image
April 7th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Andrew Williamson, OF, UCF  The UCF Knights (20-9) are coming off one of their biggest series victories in years when they went to Morgantown and took down the Mountaineers to take control of the Big 12 regular season standings.  The offense put on quite the performance and Andrew Williamson set the tone by leaving the yard in his first at-bat of the weekend launching a towering home run over the centerfield wall.  The 6-0/195 lefty from St. Petersburg, FL has one of the sweetest strokes in the college game today and when he goes, so do the Knights.  In the 3-game series, the junior collected 6 hits in his 10 at-bats, scoring 6 runs, on 5 walks, a double and he launched 3 home runs all told.  While he had a stretch earlier in the season where he was searching for his stroke a bit, he is getting locked in at the...
