WWBA Underclass World Champ. Preview

More than 250 teams from around the country will make their way to Fort Myers, Florida on Thursday for PG’s 24th Annual WWBA Underclass World Championship.

Past winners of the event include organizations like the Original Florida Pokers, CBU Scout Team, Power Baseball Marucci and Canes National.

Plenty of players ranked in the top-100 will be in attendance - the highest-ranked of them being No. 14 in the country, right-handed pitcher Samir Mohammed

Mohammed will be playing with USA Prime Tampa Scout 2027. So far in 2025, he’s really been proving why he’s the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in the country for the class of 2027 - in 26 innings pitched, he’s struck out 46 batters, allowed 8 walks and maintained a 0.81 earned run average. His fastball can get up to 95 miles per hour and his arsenal also includes a slider and a changeup.

USA Prime Tampa Scout 2027 will have its first game on Friday, Oct. 3 at 2:15 on Field 1 at JetBlue Park against the CBA Orioles 2027 Scout Team - which features the next-highest ranked player coming into the event:

Shortstop Mac Morris (ranked No. 16 in the class of 2027) is from Taylors, South Carolina. In 2025, the Alabama commit has a batting average of .360 with 20 hits, a home run and 9 runners batted in. His arm strength is a sight to behold - getting up to 96 miles per hour across the diamond and 101 miles per hour from the outfield.

The Canes National 17U team is packed to the brim with talent - including No. 17, Christian Gomez and No. 20, Finnian O’Loughlin.

Gomez, a North Carolina commit, is a stand-out, left-handed hitter from Haymarket, Virginia. In 2025, his batting average stands at .545 with 12 hits, 4 home runs and 14 runners batted in. He’s a strong, accurate outfielder and a weapon for the Canes.

O’Loughlin is also a strong outfielder, hailing from Jersey City, New Jersey. His batting average sits at .341 and he has 15 hits, 2 home runs and 12 runners batted in so far in 2025.

Other top-100 names on the Canes National 17U team include KJ Anderson, Grant Arnold, Yariel “Lito” Davis, Graham Houston, and JJ Utash

The stacked Canes National 17U team will go up against Scorpions 2027 for their first game of the event on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. in the stadium of Terry Park.

No. 18 for the class of 2027 is TCU commit Blake Ragsdale. Making the trip from Burr Ridge, Illinois, he’ll be playing with the East Cobb/SD Padres ST Underclass team. Scouts describe him as a pure shortstop with big power. His speed makes him a real force - running a 6.95 sixty-yard dash. He’s still getting started in this calendar year; his batting average is .233 with 7 hits and 3 runners batted in.

Ragsdale and the East Cobb/SD Padres ST Underclass team will play their first game on Thursday at 1:15 p.m. on Field 3 at JetBlue Park against Wow Factor Texas 2027.

Other top-100 pitchers to keep an eye out for are left-hander Cole Cinnamond and right-handed pitcher Landon Green.

Cinnamond, from Chesapeake, Virginia, will play with the Richmond Braves 17U Platinum team for this event. In 13 innings pitched in 2025, he’s struck out 14 batters. He’s 6’5 with a lot of strength from the mound, as his fastball has topped out at 94 miles per hour. He also uses a slider to go in and out of the zone to keep batters guessing.

The Richmond Braves 17U Platinum team will play their first game of the event on Friday at 8 a.m. on Field 5 at 5 Plex-Lee County Player Development Complex against MVP 2027 Scout.

Green is a Florida native who has been impressing with his veto for years. Nowadays, his fastball is up to 96 miles per hour. In 13.2 innings pitched in 2025, he’s struck out 20 batters. He also mixes in an upper-70s curveball and a mid-80s changeup.

Green enters this event with the Natty Boys 2027 - who will play their first game on Thursday at 1:15 p.m. against Beast 2027 American on Field 3 at Lee Health Sports Complex.

National Scouting Supervisor, Tyler Russo said that this event is a huge opportunity for young players:

“Over 200 teams worth of recruitable players in front of tons of college coaches - what could be better than that?”

Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022. Despite a slow start to the summer, the Pokers found their stride at the right time. “We struggled a lot early in the summer, but the past few tournaments we really started turning it on,” Pokers head coach Will McCrimon said. “I’m just so proud of these kids.” Max Maynes started the game on the mound for the Pokers. The left-hander allowed three hits and two walks...

Realistic Expectations of a 1:1 Pick

Tyler Henninger

Over the 2026 draft cycle, UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky was the projected No. 1 pick throughout the entire cycle. White Sox fans began #RochWatch and were already talking about when he will make it to Chicago. Now that he has been selected, Cholowsky has immediately become a Top-10 prospect in all of baseball. There is no denying the hype, and the pressure, for Chowlosky to get to the big leagues and produce at a high level.  But how realistic is that? Let’s take a look back at past 1:1 selections and see what you can expect from a No. 1 overall selection.  For this exercise, we’ll look at No. 1 overall picks from the bonus pool era, excluding Eli Willits from 2025 since this is his first full year of pro ball. That gives us 13 players selected from 2012 through 2024.  Almost All Become Big Leaguers The first thing that stands out is how successful No. 1 picks...

Flores posted a 2.78 ERA over 32.1 innings as a freshman before a limited sophomore campaign in which he logged just 12 innings. Following a dominant week at the 17u PG East World Series, No. 34 ranked 643 DP Cougars 17u capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating No. 2 ranked East Cobb Astros 17u, 3-2, in the championship game to claim the title. The Cougars earned the tournament's No. 1 overall seed after outscoring opponents by an absurd 59-6 throughout the week before completing their championship run with a hard-fought victory in the finale. “Always feels great to finish the year playing your best ball, especially when going up against strong competition,” 643 Head Coach Danny Pralgo said. “We did so many of the little things right: on the mound with location, clean on defense, bunting, 2 strike approach leading to long at bats, getting hit-by-pitches, and we had so many good outs offensively that led to moving a runner or scoring a runner. And when those things all come together in...

Hortenbury was probably one of my personal favorites, as this was my first time seeing it in action. It’s an athletic two-way profile that has a chance to do both at the next level. But what stood out to me, was his potential on the mound. The left-handed pitcher moves very well and is comfortable there. Has the mound presence Supplemented with a free-flowing and loose arm from a higher ¾ slot, he pounded the zone in his lone appearance. He went...
