Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

AJ Guerrero, OF, Washington

Since the calendar turned to April the Washington Huskies (24-20) have been on a roll, winning 13 out of their last 17 games. They are also (13-8) in Big Ten play, sitting just 3-games out of second place in the regular season standings. Peaking at the right time, as they prepare to face league leading Iowa this weekend, AJ Guerrero just led his club to a (3-1) week and series win over Northwestern. The 6-0/210 senior from Fife, Washington uses a big inward turn and barrel tilt to prepare him to unleash a lethal, compact path to the ball. The outfielder is densely strong in the forearms and hands, translating to easy lofted power. In four games last week he slashed .706/.714/1.471 collecting a double, 4 home runs including 2-grand slams and drove in a total of 13 runs. For the season, Guerrero is batting .353 with 14 doubles, 8 home runs, 35 RBI and has swiped 5 bags as well. Impressively, he has drawn 27 walks while only striking out 20 times for an OB% of .450 as he leads the team with 39 runs scored. The Huskies can still make some noise in the Big Ten and with Guerrero leading the offensive charge, they may play deep into the postseason.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Blake Gillespie, RHP, Charlotte

The Charlotte 49ers (25-18) have had a bit of an up and down season thus far but have quietly navigated the first 6-weeks of AAC play with an (11-7) record. This leaves them in 3rd place with three series left and are coming off an outstanding series victory against Florida Atlantic. Setting the tone on the mound in Game 1 of that series was junior Blake Gillespie. The 6-2/205, RHP, from Clermont, Georgia spun a complete game gem on a total of 110 pitches. Going 9.0 innings pitched, he scattered 4 hits, allowed no runs while walking 2 and punching out 12 opposing batters. The Georgia transfer has found a home in Charlotte and has become one of the most dominant starters in the nation. This was his second complete game shutout of the season and brings his season record to (6-3) with a 2.70 ERA where he has accumulated an amazing 99:14 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 73.1 innings pitched. Remarkably, he has been even better in conference play with (5-0) record, an ERA of 1.18 with 65 strikeouts and only 7 walks over 45.2 innings pitched. The 49ers are still in position to challenge for the regular season AAC crown, and with Gillespie all but assuring a Game 1 victory they could finish at the top.

April 22

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Jace LaViolette, OF, Texas A&M

Life in College Station on the baseball side of things has taken an incredible and sudden turn for the better and Texas A&M (23-16) is one of the most dangerous teams in the country right now. It is no coincidence that as the Aggies have won 9 of their last 10 games, including 3-consecutive SEC series, Jace LaViolette has gone on a tear with the stick. Heading into the season, the 6-6/230 junior from Katy, Texas, was the consensus favorite to be the No. 1 pick in this years MLB Draft. Early season struggles lead to some questions but that is all forgotten as the lefty has reminded the industry why he is so highly regarded. With his quiet, almost motionless pre-pitch action, LaViolette unleashes his elite bat-speed and does damage to all parts of the field. In four games last week, he collected 7 hits in 17 at bats, good for a .412 BA, while scoring 10 runs, with 4 walks, 5 homeruns and he drove in 11 runs all told. Even with the slow start, according to LaViolette standards, he is now batting .305 for the year with 9 doubles, 15 homeruns and 50 RBI. He is slugging .693 with on OBA of .468 and his advanced strike zone discipline has led him to 42 walks and only 35 strikeouts to date. The Aggies have put themselves squarely in the postseason picture and face arch-nemesis Texas on the road this weekend. If LaViolette keeps swinging the stick at this rate, not only could he be the first pick in the draft, but he could lead his club back to Omaha come June.

Perfect Game/Co-Pitchers of the Week:

Trevor Hansen, RHP & Ryder Brooks, LHP, UC Irvine

The UC Irvine Anteaters (28-9) are putting together the type of season that could deliver another opportunity to host the NCAA Tournament if they finish strong. For much of the season, they have leaned on their explosive offense to deliver victories but last weekend showed just how capable they are on the mound as they only allowed Hawaii one run the entire series. In a rare feat, especially in today’s game with high-octane bullpens, Trevor Hansen and Ryder Brooks threw back-to-back complete game shutouts to secure the sweep for UCI. In Game 2 of the series, Hansen, the 6-2/195 righty from Simi Valley, California threw 120 pitches to finish off his 9-inning shutout. The sophomore is ultra-aggressive leveraging the ball downhill from his high-3/4 arm angle using a steady diet of a riding heater and late vertical breaking ball to finish hitters. Hansen only allowed 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10 batters on his way to his 6th victory of the year. He has now made 10 starts on the season without a single loss, throwing 59.0 innings, only allowing 49 hits while amassing a 63-to-17 strikeout to walk ratio.

Not to be outdone, Ryder Brooks took the mound the next day for Game 3 and virtually matched his teammate pitch for pitch. The 6-3/200 lefty from Fountain Valley, California went the distance on 107 pitches to finish of the incredible weekend. Brooks uses a low-3/4, slightly crossbody delivery to create a tough look for his heavy fastball and sweeping breaker. Allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk, he only faced 4 batters over the minimum and punched out 10 batters along the way. On the season, Brooks has made 14 appearances, 6 of those being starts and is now (5-2) with a 4.00 ERA over 45.0 innings pitched. He has only allowed 34 hits all season and put together an impressive 47-to-17 strikeout to walk ratio. The Anteaters sit atop the ultra-competitive Big West Conference with a (16-2) record and with the pitching staff clicking on all cylinders, UC Irvine is primed to make a deep run in June.

April 15

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Gavin Gallaher, IF, North Carolina

The North Carolina Tarheels (28-8) are in the thick of the ACC regular season race and are currently in 4th place, only 3-games out of the lead. Beyond that, they are once again putting together the type of resume that would warrant another opportunity to host, at least, the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They are coming off a 4-win week where the offense put up 43-runs and Gavin Gallaher was the catalyst in the middle of the order. The 6-1/191 infielder from near by Apex, North Carolina went on a tear, doubling his home runs and driving in almost one-third of his RBI for the season last week alone. In those 4-games, Gallaher collected 9 hits in 15 at-bats, scoring 7-runs, launching 4-home runs and accounted for 11-RBIs all told. He uses a compact stroke with loose hands and easily elevates the ball to the pull side. For the year, Gallaher is slashing .285/.482/.360 with 8 home runs, 34 RBIs and he is just getting into a groove. The Heels are playing their best ball of the year and with Gallaher finding his swing, this lineup is even more dangerous.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Jack Anker, RHP, Fresno State

The Fresno State Bulldogs (17-18) have had quite a few ups and downs thus far, but they do lead the Mountain West standings with a (10-5) record at the mid-way point of conference play. The rotation has been one of the more stable aspects of this club and Jack Anker, the junior from Tulare, California put together his best outing of the season against San Diego State last Friday. Taking on the role as the Game 1 starter, the 6-2/200 righty with the nickname the “Milk Man” has shown the ability to deliver big time outings for his club. His fastball command is a difference maker as it sets the stage for his dominating slider that generates significant swing and miss. Against the Aztecs, he went 8.0 IP on just 102 pitches where he faced just one over the minimum, allowing 2 hits, no runs, 1 free pass and striking out an impressive 16 batters. The victory pushed his season record to (5-3) in 9 starts with an ERA of 5.68 over 50.2 IP with an exceptional 68:8 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Fresno State controls their own fate with a 2-game lead in the conference standings and if Anker continues to give them a chance on Friday nights they may take home another Mountain West title.

April 8

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Cam Kozeal, Arkansas

The Arkansas Razorbacks (30-3) have steadily ascended to the top of the college baseball world and silenced the early season concerns about the team’s ability to score runs. In last weekend’s sweep of Missouri, they only played 21 innings due to winning all three games by run rule while scoring an insane 51-runs. Setting the tone in the offensive onslaught was Cam Kozeal, a sophomore infielder from Omaha, Nebraska. The 5-10/200 transfer from Vanderbilt has found a home for his sweet lefthanded stroke and is doing damage at an impressive rate right now. In 4-games last week, he collected 9 hits in 13 at-bats, scoring 8 runs, on 3 walks, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and drove in an amazing 13 runs. For the season, he is slashing .417/.709/.470 with a total of 9 doubles, 7 home runs and 37 RBI in just 103 at bats. The Razorbacks are frontrunners for the national championship right now and if Kozeal and company continue to mash, it wouldn’t be wise to bet against them.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Kade Anderson, Louisiana State

The LSU Tigers (30-3) are playing their best ball of the season right now and the pitching has been otherworldly of late. Last weekend, as they swept Oklahoma on the road, the Tigers went the entire weekend without allowing a single earned run. Leading the charge for the staff in Game 1 was Kade Anderson, the 6-2/186 lefty from Madisonville, Louisiana. In what had the feel of an old-school, blue-collar outing, Anderson took the ball with no intention of passing it on to anyone else until the job was done. Using his fastball that dominated the top of the zone in the 92-95 mph range, he created plenty of swing and miss with this pitch alone. However, being able to drop in a two-plane breaker in the low-80s with 2,900+ RPMs and mix the shapes based on the hitters swing is the advanced skill he possesses. He also shows a devastating changeup with serious run to the arm side that keeps righthanded hitters off the heater. In his outing against the Sooners, he went 9.0 innings pitched, only allowing 5 hits, no runs, 2 walks while he struck out 14 batters on a total of 135 pitches. His complete game shutout was the first for LSU since 2018 and the victory runs his record to (6-0) on the year. Through 8 starts this season, he has pitched 47.1 innings, surrendering just 36 hits and has accumulated a 75:12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. LSU has the look of a national title contender and in the meantime, Anderson has pushed himself into 1st round consideration in the coming MLB Amateur Draft.
April 1

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Alex Lodise, Florida State

The Florida State Seminoles (23-4) sit atop the ACC standings after taking last weekend’s series win in South Bend against Notre Dame and won a midweek game against archrival Florida in dramatic fashion. The offense led the way by scoring 38 runs over the 4-game set and Alex Lodise did more than his share of the damage. The 6-1/190 junior, infielder from St. Augustine, Florida uses simple mechanics, direct barrel path and an all-fields approach to wreak havoc on opposing pitchers. He collected 10 hits in 20 at-bats last week, scoring 8 runs, collecting 2 doubles, a triple, 4 home runs and he tallied 8 RBI as well. To top things off, he hit for the cycle against the Florida Gators, including an electric walk-off grand slam to secure the mid-week victory. Somewhat flying under the national radar, Lodise could be considered the mid-season front runner for the Golden Spikes Award. Through 27 games, he is slashing .466/.871/.508 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs, 34 RBI and he has swiped 4 bags in 4 attempts. The Seminoles are on track for another trip to Omaha and look like true national title contender with Lodise leading the charge.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

JB Middleton, Southern Miss

The Sun Belt Conference is wide open, and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (20-8) currently lead the regular season standings. Pitching has been the stabilizing force, and the clear cut ace of the staff is JB Middleton, the 6-0/178 junior, righty from Yazoo City, Mississippi. In his start last week against conference foe South Alabama, Middleton went 8.0 IP, allowing just 1 hit, no runs, surrendering 1 walk while striking out 12 opposing batters on just 95 pitches. He features a fastball that reaches 96 mph, that sets the stage for his devastating upper-80s slider and fading change up to keep hitters off rhythm. Middleton is a tenacious competitor and is putting together an All-American type season thus far. In 7 starts, he is (5-1) with a 2.20 ERA holding opponents to a batting average of .175 and he has punched out an impressive 50 hitters in 41.0 innings pitched while only walking 12. The Golden Eagles are in the thick of another championship run and if Middleton continues to set the tone on Friday’s, we should see them in the NCAA Tournament come May.
March 25

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Eli Putnam, JR, Davidson

While Davidson (9-13) got off to a sluggish start to 2025, they have gotten hot at the right time and are (5-1) in A10 conference play. They swept VCU last weekend thanks in large part to Eli Putnam, the 6-4/215 infielder from Cabin John, Maryland. The righthanded hitting infielder, absolutely mashed all weekend for the Wildcats as they put up 49 runs in the 3-game series. Putnam is tremendously strong in the forearms and gets the ball elevated with ease, leaving the yard to all parts of the field. In 4-games last week, he collected 13 hits in 17 plate appearances, scoring 10 runs, driving in 14, with 2 doubles and 5-home runs. All 5 of his home runs came on the weekend at home and none of them were cheap. For the season, Putnam is slashing .371/.652/.418 with 4 doubles, 7 home runs and a total of 23 runs driven in. If Davidson is to make its first return appearance to the NCAA Tournament since their Super Regional team of 2017, it will have to ride the broad shoulders of Eli Putnam and the rest of the offense.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Cam Bagwell, FR, UNC Wilmington

Just being in the rotation as a true-freshman at a program as storied as UNCW (12-12) is impressive by itself but throwing a perfect game in just his sixth career start is downright amazing. Cam Bagwell, the 6-5/205 RHP from Pineville, North Carolina accomplished this for the second time in program history, the first time since 1968 and what would be the Seahawks 10th no-hitter all-time. While it was a 7-inning game due to the run-rule, Bagwell only needed 80 pitches to navigate the 21-outs he collected on the day. Relying on the quality defense behind him, he only struck out three batters as he pumped 74% strikes with his fastball/slider combination. The freshman uses his length to leverage the ball downhill and tunnels his pitches very well. A model of consistency thus far in 2025, he is now (4-0) in six starts with a stellar 2.02 ERA as he has held opponents to an OBA of .187 and features a 24-to-8 strikeout-to-walk ratio. UNCW should be in contention for another CAA title and with Bagwell securing the backend of the rotation, they could find themselves in the NCAA Tournament once again.

March 18

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Aaron Whitley, GR, Richmond

The Richmond Spiders (18-2) are off to a sizzling start and are putting together one of the best seasons in program history. They are batting .359 as a team and are averaging just under 10 runs per game so far in 2025. Among several players that are experiencing career seasons thus far, Whitley, the 5-11/185 outfielder from Niskayuna, New York is impacting the game offensively in all aspects. With a true power/speed skillset, he has already stolen 17 bases in 18 attempts and is second on the club with 26 runs scored. In 4-games last week, Whitley collected 12 hits in 20 at-bats, including 2 doubles and 3 home runs, while swiping 4-bases, scoring 9 runs, and driving in 12 runs. For the season, the graduate student is batting .329 with 5 doubles, 5 home runs and a total of 21 RBIs. The Spiders are an offensive juggernaut and if they keep racking up the wins, they could make their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2003.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Aidan Knaak, SO, Clemson

The Clemson Tigers (19-2) have been sensationally consistent, and their body of work has earned them the No. 4 spot in our most recent Perfect Game Top-25 poll. Teams don’t get to this lofty a space without a legitimate ace to run out every Friday night and the 6-0/205 RHP from Fort Myers, Florida is just that. Knaak was a Freshman All-American in ‘24 and that led to significant pre-season accolades in 2025, and he has been more than fulfilled expectations. In his start against ACC foe, Notre Dame, he went 7.0 IP allowing just 1 hit, no runs, surrendering 1 walk while punching out 12 batters and facing just 2 over the minimum. The righty features a low-to-mid 90s fastball that he puts wherever he wants and that sets the stage for arguably the best changeup in the nation. For the season, Knaak is now (3-0) in 5 starts with a 3.86 ERA over 25.2 innings pitched where he has accumulated a 44:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Tigers are on a collision course with their first trip to Omaha since 2010 with Knaak leading the way every weekend.

March 11th

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Wehiwa Aloy, JR, Arkansas

The No. 8 Arkansas Razorbacks (15-1) are hitting on all cylinders right now. There was little doubt that the Razorbacks would pitch at an elite level in 2025, but there were some questions about the offensive firepower. Thanks to the Aloy brothers leading the charge, the Razorbacks averaged over 12-runs per game last week and Wehiwa was scintillating. The 6-2/200 infielder from Wailuku, Hawaii is living up to his pre-season expectations and using his elite skill set to build what looks like a career year ahead. In five games last week, the elder Aloy collected 12 hits in 19 plate appearances, scoring 10 runs, with 5 doubles, 5 home runs and he drove in 11 total runs. The ball is getting off his bat like never before and it is catching the attention of the MLB scouts. Through 16-games this season, he is now slashing .433/.850/.534 with 7 doubles, 6 round-trippers and 18 RBI. The Razorbacks are once again National Title contenders and if Aloy sustains this type of production, not only will he be a Day 1 draft pick, but his club may be the last team standing in Omaha.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Ethan Norby, SO, East Carolina

It was a historic few days for college pitching across the nation last weekend, with multiple stunning performances worthy of this week’s honor. Righties, Drew Horn for Middle Tennessee State and Blake Gillespie at Charlotte, both spun no-hitters with 13 and 11 strikeouts respectively. While the Tennessee Volunteers used 5-pitchers to combine for the programs 9th no-hitter in school history. Amongst all that, Ethan Norby stood out with his mind-blowing display of dominant, barrel-missing pitching that has rarely been seen in today’s game. The 5-9/200 lefty from Kernersville, North Carolina showed an explosive, riding fastball and wipeout slider to eliminate 19 hitters via the strikeout. To put it in perspective, Norby went 7.1 innings pitched on just 103 pitches, registered 86% of his outs by punchout and by the way didn’t issue a single free pass. He also started the game by striking out the first 9-hitters he faced. In his 4-starts so far this year, he has a 3.00 ERA, allowing an OBA of just .186, with an incredible 40:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his 24.0 innings pitched. It has been an unusual start to the season for the Pirates but with Norby anchoring the rotation, ECU should be ready to make a run at yet another American Athletic Conference title.

March 4

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Gavin Kilen, JR, Tennessee

The Tennessee Volunteers (11-0) just passed their toughest test of the year last weekend at the Astros College Foundation Classic and it was enough to vault them into the No. 1 spot in our Top-25 poll this week. Kilen, a Louisville transfer, has been a major reason the Vols have overwhelmed their opponents with yet another offensive juggernaut of a lineup. The 5-11/187 middle infielder from Milton, Wisconsin has always been a well-respected player and with his performance in the first 3-weeks of 2025 he is putting himself in position to be the front runner for the Golden Spikes Award at this point. In four games, last week he collected 11 hits in 18 at bats, scoring 9 runs, with a double, a triple, 5 home runs and a total of 8 runs batted in. While he has always been known for his bat-to-ball skills, added strength has unlocked his power stroke and he is just 2 home runs away from tying his home run total from all of last year. For the season, Killen is now slashing .486/1.270/.615 with 2 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs and 17 RBI. The Vols are once again National Title contenders and the way Kilen is playing, he has already pushed himself into 1st round consideration in the coming MLB Amateur Draft.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Ryan Rembisz, SR, Portland

In a game built around failure, perfection is rarely achieved but that is exactly what Rembisz accomplished for the Portland Pilots (???) a week ago. The 6-2/215 left-hander needed only 90 pitches to put up nothing but zeroes on his opponent’s offensive line score. His perfect effort was just the 21st nine-inning gem in the NCAA since 1959 and the first such feat in program history. Hailing from Woodinville, Washington, the senior lefty was an unlikely candidate for a perfect game since he had never recorded more than 13 outs in a single outing during his career. Typically, a pitcher that comes out of the bullpen, the 2024 season saw his heaviest workload with 19 appearances and a total of 29 innings pitched. But, on this glorious day in the northwest, Rembisz put it all together against Seattle as he dazzled with his 4-pitch mix. His 12 strikeouts he recorded during the outing is exactly half as many punchouts he recorded all of last year as well. On the young season, Rembisz is (2-0) with a 1.72 ERA over 4 appearances, registering a save while limiting opponents to a .115 OBA and a 16:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The Pilots haven’t made an NCAA tournament appearance since 1991 but if they can build off this magic, maybe 2025 can be their year.

February 25th

Perfect Game/Player of the Week:

Paxton Kling, JR, Penn State

The Penn State Nittany Lions (5-1) are off to another outstanding start in Mike Gambino’s second year as head coach in Happy Valley. The program has a tremendous amount of momentum right now and landing a player like Paxton Kling in the transfer portal is further proof of what they have going there. Kling, the former Perfect Game High School All-American and LSU transfer, is off to an incredible start to the season, slashing .440/1.080/.533 with 5 home runs and 9 RBI thus far. The 6-2/210 Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania native is an elite athlete with twitchy actions, and it all seems to be coming together for him and his club at the right time. In 3-games last weekend, he collected 7 hits in 13 at-bats, including a double, 4 home runs and 6 RBI. Kling is setting himself up nicely for this year’s MLB Draft, but it feels like he and the Nittany Lions will be making a trip to the NCAA Tournament before that happens.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Trystan Levesque, GR, Rhode Island

While the Rhode Island Rams (3-4) currently have a losing record, they have made quite the splash on the national landscape in the first two weeks of the season. On Opening Weekend, they won the rubber match with William & Mary by an astronomical score of 36-22 in just 7 innings. This past weekend they went to Oregon and out-slugged the Ducks 12-11 on Friday night before Levesque took the mound in Game 2 of the doubleheader. The 5-10/207 southpaw went out and pitched what could be the most epic no-decision in program history. He ended up going 10 innings in the start, only allowing 3 hits, no runs, 2 walks and he struck out 9 batters on his way to 119 total pitches. An injury ended his season after just two outings in 2024 and it appears Levesque is going to make the most of his last go-round with the Rams. Heading into this year he had made 51 career appearances, 38 of those were starts and he put together a sparkling 232:56 K-to-BB ratio. Rhode Island looks like they will be a real force in the A10 and maybe Levesque can help lead them back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.

February 17

Perfect Game/Player of the Week

Marek Houston, IF, Wake Forest

The Demon Deacons are off to a perfect (4-0) start to the season and their junior shortstop has done most of the heavy lifting thus far. The 6-3/205 shortstop from Nokomis, Florida dedicated himself to adding more physicality over the offseason and the results are paying huge dividends already. Using his compact swing and added strength at contact, Houston is launching balls out of “the Couch” at a record breaking pace. In the first 4-games of the season his slash line is .714/1.429/.789 with a double, 3-home runs, 2-stolen bases and he has driven in a ridiculous 13 runs already. With a defensive skillset that was ahead of his hit tool most of his career, if the bat stays on track Houston is putting himself in great position to be an early Day 1 selection in the coming MLB Draft.

Perfect Game/Pitcher of the Week:

Dax Whitney, RHP, Oregon State

It’s not very common to see a true freshman open the season in the rotation for a program at the level of the Beavers. But Dax Whitney is no common freshman and was a big part of his team’s perfect (3-0) start to the year. At 6-5/204 the Blackfoot, Idaho native looks the part on the bump and uses a super abbreviated arm path and comprehensive repertoire to produce explosive stuff. His riding fastball is reported to have peaked at 98 mph and cruised in the mid-90s throughout his first career start. He backed that up with an abrupt mid-80s slider and heavy downer of a curve in the upper-70s. All three offerings are legit swing and miss pitches and he held his velocity deep into the outing. In his first career start he went 5.0 IP on just 84 pitches, allowing 4 hits, no runs, 1 free pass while striking out 8 batters. Oregon State are once again national title contenders and they are fortunate to have landed Whitney on campus.

14u WWBA Scout Notes: Days 1-2

Perfect Game Staff

2030 SS Cash Kelly (Franklin, Tenn.) is a buzzing name this summer as someone who is off to a fast start and looks the part as one of the better pure hitters in this class. He’s very comfortable in the box, showing an innate feel to find the barrel (and limit swing-and-miss) while the hands are fast and he can really accelerate the barrel. Defensively he has been excellent making plays look easy, showing nice range and enough arm for the left side. Add in the fact that he’s a strong runner and you have someone that can impact the game a ton. 2030 SS/RHP Trey Vandergriff (Milton, Ga.) got a couple innings of work at the back end of East Cobb’s first game and looked awesome, striking out 5 of the 6 hitters he faced with big stuff. He sat 85-88, showing dynamic arm speed and a really athletic delivery, while the breaking ball feel stood out, showing he can land it in any...

MLB Draft Reports: 400-500

Michael Albee

MLB Draft Board: Top 500 400. Michael Barnett, RHP, UCLA R-R, 6-4/210, Lafayette, CA Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Michael Barnett has started games over the last four years for the Bruins, including 44 starts over the past three seasons. The fastball does not overpower hitters, but can generate ground balls at a high rate. A heavy fading changeup is the primary secondary pitch and plus offering. Barnett will use it often and miss bats at a high clip with it. A low-80’s slider adds a third offering. Barnett does not generate a ton of strikeouts, but pounds the zone and fills innings.  401. Connor Marshburn, RHP, UNC Wilmington R-R, 6-6/240, Cary, NC Previously Drafted: Never Drafted Connor Marshburn features an XL frame at 6-foot-6, 240-pounds. The right-hander throws from a low slot and attacks hitters with an east/west mix. The fastball works up to 94 mph with armside...

Emily Hicks
Article Image
This weekend, 11 teams will take the field for the 2026 17U BCS Challenge, a three-day event that brings together programs from across the country for a full slate of pool play and bracket action. With games beginning Friday and a champion crowned Sunday, the format leaves little room for slow starts, making every inning important from the opening pitch. The field features a mix of established programs and rising teams. With so many evenly matched rosters, there’s not much separation heading into the weekend, which puts importance on pitching depth, defensive consistency, and timely hitting. Pool play will quickly determine seeding, and even one loss can shift a team’s path heading into bracket play. One of the teams expected to be in the mix is Hawaii Elite 2G 17U National, a group that is 6-3 overall and ranked as “Honorable Mention” on the Perfect Games...
