“Baseball’s absolute unpredictability makes amateurs of us all.” – Roger Angell

While positioning atop the poll had remained fairly consistent over the last few weeks, full-fledged chaos ensued up and down the rankings in week six. We’ve already seen pre-season No. 9 Duke exit the poll three weeks in, then pre-season consensus No. 1 Texas A&M exited the Top-25 last week, leading us to the departure of pre-season No. 3 Virginia this week. Seven of the Top-10 teams have new rankings this week and 21-of-25 teams in the poll find themselves in different slots than last week.

The No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers (22-2) showed that they are human dropping a mid-week game to upstart ETSU (18-5) but did win a huge SEC series on the road at No. 14 Alabama (22-3). The Georgia Bulldogs (24-2) lead the nation in wins and slide into the No. 2 spot this week after their dominant sweep of now No. 22 Florida (18-8). The Clemson Tigers (23-3) went (4-1) last week with a hard-fought series win over No. 15 Wake Forest (19-6). No. 4 Arkansas (23-2) continues to be one of the hottest teams in the nation, winning 5-games last week and swept South Carolina with relative ease. Meanwhile, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns (19-3) took down No. 7 LSU (22-3) handing the Tigers their first series loss of the year.

The No. 11 Auburn Tigers (19-5) were one of our bigger risers this week as they won another SEC series versus Kentucky (15-7). The Arizona Wildcats (18-5) jump to No. 12 having won 18-of-20 games since opening weekend and went on the road to defeat No. 16 West Virginia (19-3). Troy (18-6) headlines our new entrants to the poll this week, debuting at No. 18 after they took down No. 21 Coastal Carolina (17-7) on the weekend at home. Right behind them, Georgia Tech (20-4) makes their first appearance in the poll at No. 19 as they sit atop the ACC currently. Next, No. 20 UC Irvine (17-5) has been knocking on the door for weeks but kicked it in with their impressive sweep of previously ranked UCSB (15-7).
