High School Notebook: March 13

Ben Brown (2027, Southlake, TX) got the nod against a loaded Prestonwood Christian lineup and did not disappoint. He helped lead Liberty Christians to a big win and showed a lot to like as he went 4 innings on 4 strikeouts. Brown stands at 6-foot-1 210 pounds from a physical frame. His fastball lived in the mid-80s topping out at 90 once and was upper-80s early throughout his outing. He worked ahead with his fastball that showed some natural cutting action out of the hand at times and played hard. He went to a slider in the 70-75 range that varied in shape at times with good young spin traits and projects well. He also flashed a change at 75 and could kill spin a good bit. Mixed in a curve at 69 with more top to bottom shape. Overall, Brown sequenced/mixed well and kept hitters off his fastball for the most part producing late swings and misses off it.
