College Top 25: March 3

As the calendar turns to March teams across the nation are putting the finishing touches on their non-conference segment of the schedule. Many clubs made profound statements and showed a concerted effort to challenge their roster and will be rewarded at the end of the season by the NCAA Selection Committee. For the first time this season, there is quite a bit of movement within the Top-10 and some reshuffling now that we have a large body of work to evaluate, so let’s jump in.

We have a new No. 1 this week in the Tennessee Volunteers (11-0) who have methodically eliminated their opponents and may have the most complete roster when it comes to lineup length and pitching depth. LSU (10-1) holds tight at No. 2 this week as they continue to limit opponents scoring opportunities with their stellar arms. The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (13-1) lead the nation in wins, while the Clemson Tigers (10-1) are up to No. 4 this week on the heels of their impressive sweep of in-state rival South Carolina. ACC foes No. 5 Florida State (11-0) and No. 7 UNC (12-0) continue their perfect starts to 2025, and No. 10 Arkansas (10-1) had a perfect week and jumps into the Top-10 for the first time this year.

We had some big movers this week starting with Coastal Carolina (10-2) up to No. 15 as they only allowed 7 runs in 4-game last week. The West Virginia Mountaineers (11-0) seem to fly under the national radar right now but have yet to drop a game all year and are up to No. 16 this week. The Auburn Tigers (11-1) are up five spots this week to No. 20 after they ran the table last week. We also have three new teams this week in No. 23 Alabama (12-0), No. 24 Troy (11-1) and No. 25 Southern Miss. The Crimson Tide deserved to be ranked a week ago but there were no dropouts, and they just keep on winning. Meanwhile, the Trojans knocked off Mississippi State in the mid-week and won five games all told. The Golden Eagles round out the Top-25 and make their season debut after going to TCU and taking the weekend series.

Conference play begins for many clubs across the nation this coming weekend, so follow all the action on PG College Baseball.
