All Business for Brunson at Select Fest

The fatigue from the busy Day 2 of the 14U PG Select Fest is setting for all the guys representing the west as they wait for lunch to be served.

Sitting next to his teammates, Easton Brunson, from Highlands, Texas, relaxes in the shade of the dugout to cool off after a scrimmage.



“I was very motivated to make PG Select Fest ever since I made it last year,” Brunson shares. “The experience here is awesome. You get surrounded by all these good people and all these people that will help you in the near future.”

Brunson had to be motivated - as he did not play in as many PG games as he was hoping for during the 2024 season.

“I was in the high school season, and I didn’t have enough playing time in PG, so I had to get to the National Showcase to even have a chance at coming here. That’s why I showed out, showed my stick, showed my power, and from there it’s all just perseverance and God.”

His perseverance is even more impressive when the difficulty of his first high school season may have discouraged any young player.

“The adversity of coming in as a freshman playing varsity, that was really probably the worst part. There were always people trying to bring me down because they knew how good I was because I made Select Fest and they’ve all seen everything on Instagram. That’s why I keep my account private, so people don’t use it against me.”

Fortunately, for Brunson, he didn’t have to navigate that adversity on his own.

“I have to give all the credit to my mom and dad. They’re the best. They’re awesome. They helped me do everything. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them and my grandparents.”

The Brunson’s showed their support when the long-awaited Select Festival game fell victim to the ever-changing Southwest Florida weather. Easton was slated to pitch later in the game, but with the game in delay, the Brunson's knew they would miss their flight out if they waited to see him pitch.

Easton's mother, Brendy, said "we missed our flight and drove home 15+ hours and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We discussed the whole 4 days from top to bottom and just enjoyed the memories. As a parent it doesn’t get any better that that."

Brunson’s self awareness is easily seen when he talks about what he’s currently focusing on in his game.

“I’ve really been working on my fielding game, my hitting game, stuff like that. I know I’m not the fastest guy here, but I’m trying my best to get below a seven. I’m not very fast but I get the ball far.”

That self awareness is partnered with his maturity - which goes far beyond what would be expected of a 15-year-old, as he shared advice for younger players who also want to be invited to a Select Fest one day.

“Don’t lose faith in the game. Have fun. A lot of people out here don’t really have fun when they’re playing the game, but I feel like I’m still playing the game I played when I was three. It’s just the same thing. Kids going harder, [they’re] bigger…who cares? Just play your game.”

With the completion of the 2026 13u National Showcase, an event that featured some of the best talent the age group has to offer, 42 players came out with the label of "Festivaler" as they received a phone call shortly after the event concluded. Moving back to the University of Tennessee after a two year stay at the University of Virginia, Ole Rocky Top will see a mixed bag of returners; three-timers, new faces and a couple who bridged the gap from the 11u game into the 13u iteration.  Of the 42 players, 9 players call Florida their home base which is the most of any state while Texas (8), California (7) and Georgia (5) are all close behind nearly three-quarters of the players selected. PG Draft: Potential Risers Into Top 50

We are in the early stages of the 2027 cycle and there is still plenty of time for players to make significant jumps up the board. While our current Top-100 provides an early look at the class, several players just outside that group have the upside to make a run at becoming Top-50 pick by next July. With that in mind, each member of the draft team each selected one college player and one prep player they believe could make the jump into the Top-50 over the course of the spring. The landscape of the MLB Draft continues to evolve each and every year. What teams value at the top of the draft can change based on the strength of a particular class, shifts in player development philosophy, and, perhaps most importantly, the way organizations evaluate risk and upside. Some trends are subtle, while others become impossible to ignore when viewed across multiple years. For this study, I set out to answer one question: What player profiles do teams value at the top of the draft? To answer it, I analyzed the Top-100 picks from each of the last six drafts (2021-2026). That gives us 600 total selections to examine and provides a large enough sample to identify both the profiles that have remained consistently popular and those that have gained or lost significant ground. 2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot.
