College Top 25: May 13

Well, here we are folks, the last week of the regular season and what an insane week we just witnessed.  Conference tournament seeding, NCAA tournament at-large bids, hosting opportunities and national seed implications were all on the line.  So, of course, we saw 6 of the Top-10 teams lose their series this weekend, while others all but secured their postseason position.

Starting at the top, the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers (42-10) continue to steamroll the competition with the most complete blend of offense and pitching in the nation.  The Kentucky Wildcats (37-11) won a hard fought SEC series on the road and ascended to No. 2, their highest ranking of the season.  No. 3 Arkansas (42-10) proved they aren’t going anywhere after winning a series against No. 23 Mississippi State (33-18).  Oregon State (39-12) had a perfect (4-0) week and jumped back up to No. 4 this week.  Meanwhile, the Georgia Bulldogs (38-12) remain one of the hottest clubs in the nation as they swept South Carolina (33-18) on the road and round out our Top-5 this week.

Now for the fallout; starting with Texas A&M (42-10) as they lost their second consecutive series to an unranked team and landed at No. 8 in the new poll.  The Clemson Tigers (37-13) went (1-3) after being swept by No. 7 Wake Forest (36-16) and ended up at No. 9 this week.  No. 11 Florida State (37-12) lost a road series at Pitt and No. 13 Duke (34-16) hurt their hosting chances by losing a series to Georgia Tech.  Another team doing significant damage to their hosting outlook, East Carolina (37-13), has lost 5 of their last 6 after getting swept by Tulane (29-23) and fell all the way to No. 16.

The Oklahoma Sooners (32-17) continue to lead the Big 12 standings and reappear at No. 20 this week after sweeping Baylor (21-29).  Meanwhile Dallas Baptist (38-12) has slowly but surely righted the ship, having won 9 of their last 10 and return to No. 25 as they share the lead in the C-USA regular season standings.
