As the youth landscape continues to evolve and grow at a rapid rate, there’s no denying there are a handful of premier events on both the 13u and 14u national circuit that are must attend-type events. Less than a week from now, we’ll be playing baseball in Panama City, kicking off the 2023 Beast of the East, which serves as the unofficial start to summer baseball while playing host to some of the very best prospects and teams at their respective age division. From 9u up to 14u, eight teams in each age division will go head-to-head in what will almost assuredly be a championship game like atmosphere throughout pool play and into bracket as every club wants to be the last one standing come Sunday afternoon. 



The 13u bracket is chalk full of talent as several of the top prospects are littered throughout the eight rosters, including over 30 Select Festival alums, a number that has continued to grow as rosters keep populating on the website. The eight team field comes from six different states, though the clubs are anything but condensed in terms of location as players from all over the country will invade Panama City for what’ll be a highly intense weekend. 

Amongst them is the first commitment in the 2028 class with left-hander Luke Esquivel of the SBA Bolts, a young Texas arm who gave his verbal commitment to Louisiana State and will most likely be handed the ball in his clubs biggest game of the weekend. Esquivel won’t be the only arm bringing the heat as more than a couple of arms have already bumped into the mid- to upper-80s with the fastball, a group that we can guarantee will continue to grow as the summer circuit unfolds. Both Dexter McCleon Jr (TG DBacks) and Jael Santos (ZT Prospects National) have made a lot of noise on the diamond already in their young careers and will be amongst the top players you'll need to see. 

Of course the tournament will feature more than just big arms as there’s speed, hit tools, and next level power as you look through the rosters, meaning any give at-bat around the quad could provide a “can’t miss” moment. There are eight nationally ranked players from the 2027 class who are young enough to play the 13u circuit this summer and will be in attendance, led by Pablo Martinez (No. 19 overall/Wildcatters Burgos), Brayden Landry (No. 23 overall/SBA Bolts) and Caleb Alexander (No. 24 overall/Wildcatters Burgos), three bats who you can expect to hear from once the action kicks off.

The 14u rendition of the Beast of the East won't be too dissimilar from the 13u in that every game is going to be a must-win matchup as each of the eight teams in attendance (also represented by six states) have their eyes set on recording the final out come Sunday and hoisting one of the more coveted championship crowns on the circuit. 

There's no shortage of talent by any means as each of the top five ranked players in the 2027 class will make the trip to PCB in No. 1 Chase Fuller (Fl Dodgers Scout), No. 2 Logan Schmidt (BPA), No. 3 Lash Henderson (USA Prime), No. 4 Landon Green (R3 - Olasin) and No. 5 Joshua Priest (Motor City Hit Dogs) and in totality, 17 of the top 50 ranked players will be in attendance, including a pair of top 50 from the 2026 class in Jorvorskie Lane Jr. and John Stowers, both with USA Prime. That said, there's no doubting several players will use this opportunity to either build upon what they've shown this spring or take full advantage of the spotlight and burst onto the national scene, soaring up the rankings while making a name for themselves. 

And just to reiterate the type of talent level we'll see in Panama City, there are already more than a dozen college commitments amongst the field and it's a number we can guarantee will continue to grow rapidly the moment the 2027 class is able to say yes to an offer. 

As we said above, this is the first premier event of the summer for the age group, building off of a spring schedule that allowed our staff to begin the name gathering process for follow lists, rankings and National Showcase invites alike. Throughout the weekend, as players continue to make a name for themselves, invites for both the 13u and 14u National Showcases will be earned and bring players one step closer to making the Perfect Game Select Festivals.

East Memorial Day Scout Notes: Days 1-2 Trigg Listerman (28, Tampa, FL) had a great showing on the mound Sunday, throwing 4 inning while allowing only 2 hits and no earned runs. Listerman is a quick, athletic righty arm with a fastball that ran up to 90 with some run to it and a sharp breaking ball with sharp, late break to it. Kept hitters guessing at the plate all game and struck out 7 batters. Brody Root (28, Saint James City, FL) had a good start on the mound in the first round of the playoffs, throwing 5 innings allowing only 3 runs and sitting 6 batters down on strikes. pounded the zone with the fastball that ran up to 86 and complimented it nicely with a late breaking slider with tight spin to it. USA Prime Tampa Scout 2027 edged VSA Scout 17U 4-3 Monday afternoon, using strong defense and a walk-off RBI from Bryce Flemming to secure the title. A light breeze helped cool down an otherwise warm afternoon at JetBlue Park during the championship game. USA Prime jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning to apply early pressure on VSA.
