Tyler Garbooshian, INF, Class of 2026
Commitment: Rutgers

Garboosian becomes the second commit in the 2026 Class for the Scarlet Knights, as they continue to secure in-state talent. The right-handed hitting infielder possesses an intriguing profile with a well-proportioned frame and plenty of physical projection remaining. It is an intent-based swing with burgeoning middle-of-the field impact that will develop into more usable power as he physically matures. Defensively, he exhibits soft hands to field cleanly and some lateral range to either side. He produces online, accurate throws with some present carry. Look for him to continue adding strength over the next few years, while continuing to showcase his knack for finding the barrel.

Wyatt Halvorson, RHP, Class of 2023
PG Rank: 500 | Commitment: Arizona State

Halvorson made his pact to the in-state Sun Devils and head coach Willie Bloomquist, as the physical right-hander was one of the most intriguing uncommitted arms remaining. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Arizona native was up to 91 mph at the WWBA World Championships, where he punched out nine across his four innings of work. It’s a bulldog mentality with ample stuff to go with it. He comes right at hitters with an exploding fastball, navigates all four quadrants with it effectively and generates tons of empty swings with it. He pairs it well with a sharp breaking ball that can garner plenty of swings-and-misses, while showing the aptitude to land it for strikes when needed. There is more velocity in the tank, as he should see another velocity uptick in the near future and his frame could hold some additional strength. Look for Halvorson to take another step from a velocity standpoint and should be able to provide some immediate innings upon setting foot on campus.

-John McAdams

Barrett McKenney, 3B/RHP, Class of 2025
National Rank: 338 | Commitment: Missouri State

Missouri State grabbed an awfully physical two-way presence in McKenney to boost its 2025 class substantially. McKenney is a two-sport athlete with plenty of size at physicality. He simply impacts the ball, and it comes off loud to the pull side with real strength and lift out front from both halves. The power projects and can do real damage at the next level. He projects to stick on the left side of the dirt potentially as a corner with a solid arm across. He’s also sports a high-80s fastball and hard 11-5 breaker from a full three-quarter slot. The bat has stood out in looks, and McKenney’s physicality and strength can do big things once he reaches campus.

Jacob Vokal, MIF/RHP, Class of 2024
National Rank: 500 | Commitment: Davidson

Davidson added to its 2024 class with a well-rounded product in Vokal. He stood out this summer with his overall feel and two-way potential. He’s a solid athlete up the middle with strong carry to his throws and clean transfers. Vokal has solid barrel skills at the plate from a direct path and a sound set of hands that work to all fields. It’s a quick, simple stroke with some projectable strength as he adds to his frame. Vokal can hop on the bump and work up to 87-88 with a late tilt to a slurvy breaker, as well. There’s a lot of components to work with, and Vokal can develop into a big product.

Tyler Bellerose, RHP/OF, Class of 2025
National Rank: 500 | Commitment: Pepperdine

Pepperdine stayed in-state and nabbed a talented arm in Bellerose. He’s an athletic presence down the mound, running the fastball up to 87-88 mph and living low/mid-80s with some life out of the hand. He pairs a solid 11-5 curveball off it and filled the zone at will at points. The athleticism and arm talent bode well for the profile. Bellerose also has some two-way ability with good feel and strength at the plate. He’s a solid two-way and a big time addition to Pepperdine.

Brandon De Goti, MIF, Class of 2024
National Rank: 370 | Commitment: Ohio State

The Buckeyes went into Florida and grabbed one of the top uncommitted players in the state in De Goti. The Miami, Fla. native has advanced bat-to-ball skills and real feel for the barrel. It’s a simple path with clean extension out front and a strong set of hands. He produces barreled contact to the pull-side gap and continues to perform on the circuit. De Goti has a solid glove up the middle that projects on the dirt. Combined with a solid hit tool and offensive floor, Ohio State got a big grab for its 2024 class.

-Isaiah Burrows

Brayden Sanders, RHP, NW Mississippi CC
Commitment: Memphis

Kerrick Jackson and the new University of Memphis staff has hit the ground running, re-tooling on the fly with premier local Junior college talent, headlined by the recent signings of right-hander Brayden Sanders and exceptional power hitting outfielder Pierre Seals. Sanders has the stuff to set the tone for any staff with a lively low to mid 90’s heater and three-pitch batting missing offspeed arsenal. The only consistent question mark has been whether or not he can limit the free passes over the course of an outing. Easy to project a double digit K/9 number this spring pitching for the Rangers of Northwest Miss. CC.

Matthew Bardowell, OF, Riverside CC
Commitment: Cal State Fullerton

The OEC & Pacific association Player of the Year is coming of a season where he could do no wrong, slashing an eye opening .436/.537/.756 adding 8 bombs and 23 doubles. Second year Head Coach Jason Dietrich has to be ecstatic to be able to keep a homegrown impact player like this close to home. The Titans in year one of the new regime experienced some expected growing pains but quality players like Bardowell go a long way towards putting Fullerton back in the driver's seat of the Big West. Expect him to leave Goodwin field more than a couple times in the not too distant future.

Rhett Hendricks, OF, Johnson County
Commitment: Charlotte
The athletic outfielder from JCCC, has secured his commitment to UNC-Charlotte. Unfortunately, an injury derailed what was expected to be a promising season as an impact bat for Johnson County. All healthy now and looking to show why he’s one of the premier junior college prospects in the midwest. His showing at the Jayhawk Juco showcase left many impressed with an event best 105 exit velocity along with a swift 6.7 60-yard.
-Troy Sutherland

Konnor Griffin, OF, Class of 2024
National Rank: 2 | Commitment: LSU

Simply put, Griffin possesses the type of talent you don’t often find at the high school level and it’s scary to think the 6-foot-4 Mississippi native is only continuing to climb to his ultimate ceiling whenever we see him. A true potential 5-tool talent, Griffin has shown his talents over the years and perhaps none as loudly as his right-handed swing. Using his length and strength to his advantage, Griffin’s bat speed ranks amongst the best in the country, regardless of class, and the culmination of it all is hard hit baseballs that can leave to all parts of the yard. His athleticism and speed, a 6.7 runner with reports of even lower, are assets both in the outfield as well as on the bases and when you consider the arm strength that’s already been upwards of 93 mph on the mound, it’s no wonder he was so highly coveted by collegiate programs and currently ranked No. 2 in the country.

Bryan Ravelo, OF, Class of 2027
National Rank: 8 | Commitment: LSU

As if landing Griffin (above) wasn’t enough to give the Tigers 4 of the top 10 prospects in the 2024 class, they also landed one of the top 2027 grads in the young Ravelo out of South Florida. Despite his long limbed 6-foot-3 frame, Ravelo is extremely coordinated and balanced in his actions which speaks to his athleticism as he’s able to make an impact on both sides of the ball. The newly minted LSU commit is already running a 6.7 in the 60-yard and it’s an area of his game that allows him to track down fly balls to the gaps while also collecting 16 stolen bags on the year. Similarly to Griffin, Ravelo does a nice job of generating quality bat speed through the zone with leverage out front at the point of contact and already shows the ability to impact the ball from foul line to foul line.

Emmanuel "Manny" Lantigua, SS/RHP, Class of 2025
National Rank: 32 | Commitment: Florida State

Lantigua wasn’t on the national circuit this past summer as much as some of the other top ranked players in the class, but that doesn’t mean his talents still aren’t well known. One of the top gloves in the dirt within the 2025 class, Lantigua is younger for the grade though you wouldn’t know it by watching him play, whether it’s the way he flashes the leather or the eye-opening arm strength across the diamond. That arm strength leads to a very real two-way possibility as the velocity is already working comfortably in the upper-80s with plenty more in the tank and a slider that he rips with real conviction and late horizontal bite. Offensively all the components are there for the latest FSU commit to make an impact almost immediately, showing quality bat speed with bat-to-ball skill and ever developing strength off the barrel.

-Jheremy Brown

Hunter Dietz, LHP, Class of 2023
National Rank: 51 | Commitment: Arkansas

As if Arkansas’ 2023 class wasn’t already insanely good, they add ANOTHER All-American, their seventh, and their ridiculous 13th player within the Top 100 in the class with the addition of Dietz. He has made huge strides over the last two years across the board and it’s the kind of profile that could make an impact right away on campus. He’s a big 6-foot-6, 230-pound power left-handed who was 90-94 at the National this summer with real downhill angle and a good bit of ease. He commands the fastball very well, showing the ability to get to any part of the zone with real intent and has a full mix he throws strikes with. It’s a slider-changeup combo that are both thrown in the low-80s and the slider, at over 2400 RPMs, has a real shot to miss bats in bunches. There’s more upside here and he extends Arkansas’ lead on having the top class for 2023.

Jay O'Neal, RHP, Class of 2025
National Rank: 57 | Commitment: Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech has done a really good job in recruiting of late and their ability to keep some of Georgia’s top players in state is a big part of continued success, which they do here in landing O’Neal. He’s one of the top strike throwers in the country, regardless of class, and had one of the better years we’ve seen in recent memory for someone of his age. He threw over 70 innings on the circuit and had a ridiculous 87:8 K:BB ratio across those innings. He’s up to 92 now with the fastball, showing it this fall, and it’s a pitch with huge run/bore (up to 20”) that he can backdoor to righties or run from lefties. The changeup and the slider are both pitches that have done very well for him in extended looks, the former showing killed spin and hard diving life off a fastball tunnel and the latter really turning into a swing-and-mis pitch. He’s got the foundation of a power right-hander with a full arsenal, legit command and bat-missing stuff, it’s a really impactful addition to this class.

Coppy's Corner: July 14 Summer Edition

John Coppolella
Article Image
The amateur players in the Cape Cod Baseball League are the future stars of the 2027 MLB Draft. The league runs from June 13th through August 2nd. Games are played at historic stadiums in Old New England towns. It’s beautiful and charming. Hollywood even made a movie about the Cape Cod League ~25 years ago called Summer Catch. It scored an 8% (!) on Rotten Tomatoes, but, on the plus side, it featured 2001 Jessica Biel in a starring role.  It was so much fun writing Coppy’s Column this spring. My hope is to highlight a pitcher and position player each week from the Cape. And, who knows, maybe somewhere out there Jessica Biel is reading it.    Player of the Week: Carter White – Falmouth Commodores  Talk about making a great first impression! White introduced himself in a very loud and boisterous way this past week by going 9-17 (.529 AVG) with 6 RBI...

Ridge Whitfield (2029, Charlotte, NC) stands at 6-foot, 158 pounds with an athletic build that should allow him to maintain his mobility and quick-twitch actions as he continues to develop. He bats and throws left-handed. Whitfield locates his fastball to both sides of the plate, mixes his pitches effectively, and keeps hitters off balance. He competes on every pitch and doesn’t back down in big situations. Whitfield threw 5.1 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, and no walks while striking out three on 75 pitches (58% strikes). He attacked the zone with a fastball that sat 73 mph and topped out at 78 mph, mixing in a 67 mph breaking ball and a 68-70 mph changeup to keep hitters off balance. Jake Karpell (2030, Holmdel, NJ) got on the barrel a couple times in game five and totaled three rbis. Started his production with a single then later on hammered a heater down the right field and flew around the bases for a three run inside the park home run. Keeps the hands inside at contact really well and got the head around on the homer. Runs well and can hit it around the yard in the approach.  Luke Sauer (2030 C, FL)  put his hit tool on display with a well-struck double, continuing to show why he is regarded as one of the top catchers in the class. Owns a big frame with present physicality and does a good job keeping the hands connected throughout the swing. The barrel works efficiently through the zone and there is a solid offensive foundation present. Currently ranked as the No. 66 catcher nationally.  Gavin Politz (2030 OF, FL) continued a strong tournament...

Connor Ashley (‘29, FL) has struck out six over six no hit innings thus far. He operates from a medium-to-large right-handed frame with length, room to fill, and lower half strength. Ashley works exclusively from the stretch, starting at the belt before working into a higher compact leg lift, firing down the mound via a long arm action. He releases from a high three-quarters slot, with the fastball jumping from the hand up to 87. Ashley mixed in a sharp 11-5 breaking ball with depth and late bite, a true swing-and-miss offering.  Matthew Hernandez (’29, Miami Lakes, FL) has posted strong numbers on both...

The curveball worked in the mid-70s with good depth and healthy shape. The slider operated in the 79-82 range with gyro spin and short break. McGeady rounded out the repertoire with a changeup that showed big fade and depth, proving effective versus lefties.
