PG/Rawlings Finest in the Field: 2027

C Will Brick (Memphis, Tenn.)
You don’t always find refined receiving skills at this age but with Brick you’re getting just that as he showed throughout the past summer circuit. Well built at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Brick has proven to be a well-rounded prospect out of Tennessee as the offensive exploits speak for themselves to this point. Brick proved to be a wall time and time again, routinely squaring his shoulders up to balls in the dirt to keep everything in front, rarely allowing a free base. The catch-and-throw skills are just as noteworthy as he gets the ball out of the glove plenty quick before showing true and firm carry on this throws down to second base.

The catching crop is unusually deep at such a young age already given the talents that just missed between Cole Crawford, Broder Katke, Maddux Lessard and Blake Lundy who is coming off of a big fall showing.

1B Logan Schmidt (Villa Park, Calif.)
Schmidt is currently the top ranked arm in the class of 2027 but when he’s not toeing the rubber he’s typically at first base and almost always situated in the middle of the order. The young Californian shows the requisite footwork around the bag with some agility to his actions in the dirt along with softness in his hands that allow for the scoop play and of course plenty of arm strength which translates into a mid- to upper-80s fastball when on the rubber.

MIF Ricky Lopez (New York, N.Y.)
Lopez made the type of play at the 13u Select Festival that you can watch 50 times in a row and still be amazed after each play for a couple of reasons; 1. for the actual play itself and 2. for the fact you then have to realize it was a 13u game on national television. Of course, Lopez all pulled off this highlight reel play after earning the 13u Defensive Player of the Year the night prior at the awards banquet as the footwork and overall actions simply aren’t found at this age. Add in the arm strength and internal clock for knowing how much time he has to complete a specific play, and you’re talking out a special defender in the middle infield already.

MIF Carter Hadnot (Rialto, Calif.)
Slashing .471/.654/1.419  atop the lineup for the championship winning team is usually good enough to take home MVP honors, but what pushed Hadnot over the edge into winning the award was the defensive actions that consistently show up during the WWBA 14u World Championships this fall. Whether it was a slow roller play in which he had to break in, a rangy play up the middle, or in the case of the marvelous play he made in the championship, both as he went up the middle on a chopper, did a full 360 spin and fired a strike on to first base. All the tools are there and when you factor in his athleticism, Hadnot has proven to be one of the top gloves thus far.

Just like the catcher spot, the middle infield is extremely deep and could easily fit another handful of names here, from Californian Matthew Kelley who has been consistent throughout to South Carolina commit Mac Morris and Texan Aidan Salinas.

3B Chase Fuller (Tallahassee, Fla.)
You don’t have to look far to find Fuller’s name at all, in fact you can stop after reading the first one as he’s currently the top ranked player in the 2027 class for his complete collection of tools. Given his current physical build and the upside of his ceiling in terms of strength, we slid Fuller over to third for this exercise but there’s no mistaking his abilities up the middle at present day. He’s a sub-7 runner and he brings that athleticism to the dirt at he moves around with balance and shows proper footwork with timing coming through the ball, and of course a big arm across the diamond as evidenced by his 90 mph fastball on the bump.

OF Bryan Ravelo (Miramar, Fla.)
Ravelo has a complete package of tools as you look down the list, from 6.7 speed to a right-handed stick that produces plenty of hard, barreled contact and an arm that has already crept into the upper-80s on the bump. Take those tools and add in his athleticism and long, projectable 6-foot-3 frame and you have a player to follow pretty closely. While he has the arm strength to play a lock down right field, Ravelo’s first step quickness and overall range suits him well in center field as well as he can cover plenty of ground while still showing off the aforementioned arm strength, something he’s done more than once in a live setting.

OF Caden Dawson (Marietta, Ga.)
Just take a look at the play above and see if you can only watch it once as it’s a type of play you simply won’t find at the 13u level very often, if at all. A corner outfield type whose left-handed strength at the plate will carry the offensive profile, Dawson’s athleticism elevates his overall to yet another level as it can simply take over in the outfield. As we saw at the University of Tennessee, Dawson’s first step quickness, range and ability to track a baseball are second to none as he went all the way back to the warning track in left field to make an over-the-shoulder catch that brought everybody to their feet. Dawson’s arm strength is another tool that plays in the outfield, showing firm and on line throws to the intended target.

OF Lash Henderson (Frisco, Texas)
Despite being a long 6-foot-3 and having just turned 14 years old, Henderson is extremely athletic and coordination for his age/size balance and it’s part of the reason why he finds himself on this list. He uses his length well to take graceful strides to the gaps, tracking down fly balls while putting his 6.8 speed to the test, something we’ve seen on the base paths with him as well. Henderson is now a two-time Select Festival alum and throughout the summer circuit we saw his talents on display in center field alongside his arm strength which as been clocked in the mid-80s already with even more left in the tank.

UTL Carson (Bear) Calvo (Fullerton, Calif.)
When you think of utility, you think of a player who can play all over the diamond and has a variety of positions listed next to their name. A primary shortstop, it’s no surprise to see him in the middle infield dirt in any given look, though nor is it out of place to see him with the catcher’s gear on or on the mound where he works comfortably in the low-80s. Calvo fits the mold of a polished SoCal infielder as he plays the game with comfort and balance, never letting anything get too fast while showing softness to his hands and advanced footwork underneath him. While he’s capable of playing a variety of positions on the diamond, including the outfield, the combination of Calvo’s feel at shortstop and what he brings to the table offensively will keep him in the dirt for the foreseeable future.

P Landon Green (Clearwater, Fla.)
Green is already becoming somewhat of a household name, but then again when you throw 90 mph before your 14th birthday, that’ll tend to happen. Now running his fastball up to 92 mph on the mound, Green’s arm strength is equally impressive from the outfield as he showed during the 13u National Showcase where he threw 92 mph and his arm has proven to be a weapon at a corner outfield spot throughout the summer circuit. There’s some juice in his bat too alongside his 7.1 speed, highlighting tools he brings to the mound as he not only generates the biggest fastball in the class, but does so with a real sense of ease and minimal effort at release.

13u World Series Notes: Days 1-2

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
Michael Wedgeworth (2030, Flomaton, AL) had put the two way ability on full display so far this week, dominating from both sides. On the mound Wedgeworth ran the fastball up to 84 (81-83) with ease to the delivery. Broke off a couple nasty curveballs that induced swing and miss, as well as freezing hitters for punch outs. Collected six in his four inning complete game. He also would not be denied at the plate going 3-5 in the first two days with two doubles. Very intriguing young player as the body continues to grow.  Tyler Bellush (2031, Summerville, SC) is a sure handed shortstop for the Canes Nation squad. Swings it from the left side of the plate and the barrel accuracy has really stuck out thus far. 3-4 through the first couple days with a double and two triples, Bellush has also walked twice and collected 3 RBI along the way. Yesterday against USA Prime with the bases loaded,...

The right-handed pitcher went four innings and collected three strikeouts while spreading two hits and two walks for one run. The fastball topped out at 80 and was consistently in the upper- 70s. Performance Baseball Rolls On

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
Championship teams often reveal themselves when the game isn’t going their way. Performance Baseball 2028/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team did exactly that. Trailing Florida Burn 2028 Scout through four innings, the Brewers refused to panic. Instead, they relied on timely hitting, consistent pitching, and an unselfish approach at the plate, rallying a five-run fifth inning before pulling away for a 9-5 victory to clinch their spot in the semifinals. The comeback was fueled by contributions throughout the lineup. Six different players drove in runs, including two RBIs each from Aiden Capobianco and Cameron Massey, while Matthew Heredia, Parker Weston, Ethan Smith, and Aj Bonnette each added an RBI of their own. On the mound, Derek Wenzel set the tone with 3.2 solid innings before Ethan Smith shut the door in relief, helping preserve the comeback victory. Although the Brewers have had a...

Emily Hicks
Article Image
JK Select Hawaii capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating GBG Vegas 14u Red14-4 in the championship game on Sunday at Goodyear Ballpark, claiming the 14u West World Series title. From the opening pitch, JK Select controlled the pace of the game. The offense jumped out early, scoring 6 runs in the 1st inning after timely hits from MVP Sean Shindo and Kade Manarpaac. The early lead gave the pitching staff confidence as they worked efficiently through the opposing lineup. “I've worked hard to get better at my game for the past few months; it means a lot that I did well and performed in a tournament like this” said Shindo. Starting pitcher Maddox Prones turned in a strong performance, allowing 3 runs while striking out 5 batters over 3 innings. The defense backed the effort with great plays in the middle infield, preventing GBG Vegas from building momentum....

"Wow" Swings Catch Eyes at 16u Elite

Kinley Kitchens
Article Image
On the second day of the 2026 Perfect Game National Elite Championship, one swing turned heads across the ballpark. The next one brought everyone to a stop. With Wow Factor Nation 16U trailing midway through its matchup against Sandlot Scout Team 2028, Micheal O'Connor launched a solo home run to spark the offense. Just one batter later, Aaron Frink stepped into the box and sent another ball over the fence, delivering back-to-back home runs that quickly became one of the most talked about moments of the tournament’s opening days. Parents gathered along the nets, players from previous games stopped to watch, and college scouts turned their attention toward the action as the two towering swings energized the crowd and brought new life to the game. Although Wow Factor Nation ultimately lost 5-3 after a hard-fought performance, the back-to-back home runs served as a reminder of the...
