17u WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2


On the mound in the starting role for Elite Squad Gulf South 17u was Riley Marcotte (2023, New Iberia, La.). The 6-foot-2, 175-pound LHP was special for most of the game, holding a potent Dirtbags offense in check until the end. Using a compact delivery where he coils his upper body at balance and hides the ball in transition, he made high leverage pitches when needed. Marcotte’s arm path is medium in depth but stays in line with his body and accelerates through a three-quarter arm angle. He was impressive with his ability to mix his entire repertoire and basically throw any pitch in any count. His fastball was in the 83-86 range with consistent arm-side run, his sweeping slider was in the mid-70s and he flashed a solid changeup as well. The Louisiana-Lafayette commit is a steely competitor, going 5 Innings today, scattering 4 hits, 2 walks and striking out 5 batters.
