Zion Theophilus was handed the ball to start the championship game of the 15u WWBA National Championship for Canes National 15u and never gave it up, tossing all of the six innings it took before the Canes came away with a 8-0 victory over Artillery Baseball 2025 Scout Team.

Theophilus, the No. 8 right-handed pitching prospect in the 2025 class, gave up just two hits and no earned runs while striking out eight, needing just 73 pitches to get through the outing. The performance was plenty enough for him to be named the MV-Pitcher of the 15u WWBA.

He was handed a four-run lead in the bottom of the second inning by his lineup, which jumpstarted the attack for the Canes. A two-out walk from Peter Mershon started the rally, Eddie Zaun and Carter Smith both got plunked to load the bases quickly, and after a passed ball during David Shields’ at-bat plated the first run of the game, his two-run single opened up a 3-0 lead. Presley Courville singled at the end of an eight-pitch at-bat and scored Shields to finish the crooked inning.

The Canes added one more run in the third, another in the fourth, and earned a mercy-rule walkoff in the bottom of the sixth thanks to two more runs to push the lead to 8-0.

The Canes did their damage thanks to just four total hits, but worked five walks on top of that. Shields and Courville both had multi-RBI games from the nine- and 10-spot in the lineup, respectively, and Noah Franco, Zaun, and Jett Humphreys each contributed one as well.

Canes National, the No. 1 ranked 15u organization in the country, finished the week at the 15u WWBA National Championship with a perfect 12-0 record, with a stunning run differential of 107-13.

Everett Johnson, the No. 4 outfielder in the 2025 class, was named the MVP of the event for Canes National, having hit .452 with an additional eight walks on top of that over the 12 games, while also scoring 14 runs and driving in 11.
