South Invitational Scout Notes: Day 1

Conner Bennett (2023, Spring, Texas) and Tristan Russell (2023, Cypress, Texas) have both had really strong starts to the weekend through their first two games and Day 2 was certainly good to the both of them as Bennett racked up three hits, including a double, which pushed his total to 5-fot-7 while Russell had two strong extra-base hits. Bennett has long been a talent on the tournament circuit dating back to his selection to the 14u Select Festival and there’s been no shortage of production since. It’s real barrel skills with some juice in a smaller frame while the catch-and-throw is certainly among the best in the state. Russell is a slightly more athletic guy who can switch-hit and from the left side, where he seems more natural, it’s quick hands, real bat to ball and plenty of bat speed to create the kind of impact he needs to rack up extra bases.
