Philip Canalichio (2023, Garden Ridge, Texas) is a physically imposing 6-foot-4, 195-pound lefthander who opened up the event with some louder stuff although it wasn’t the sharpest of looks. He lived in the 88-90 mph range for the most part with the fastball in the first inning and was able to use the heaviness to it to miss bats and work around some early command issues. There’s some effort to how he works but he also gets excellent extension on the fastball which allows the velocity to play up a bit and as he shows more feel to spin the depthy breaking ball he’s got in his mix, he should certainly be able to find a solid place to play at the next level.

Kale Knox (2023, Buna, Texas) had one of the best opening days to an event that could ask for as he finished the single game 3-for-3 with hits of the single, double and triple variety while also driving in six runs and scoring twice himself. A long and physical 6-foot-2, 200-pound lefthanded hitter, he’s got obvious feel for the barrel which comes with the performance he turned in while there’s a great deal of strength to the swing as a whole which showed in flashes in this look. It’s a simple swing and approach and he’ll get the barrel out with intent more often than not, albeit against not great pitching here, which is enough in itself to be intrigued about.
