Robby Snelling, LHP, McQueen High School (Nev.)

Snelling capped-off his stellar season to this point with another dominant start in the opening round of the Northern Nevada 5A Regional Playoffs, pitching a complete game shutout with 15 strikeouts and scattering two hits over seven frames. The LSU commit has put together the most dominant performance by a Northern Nevada pitcher since Shawn Estes, breaking his single season strikeout record with 145 over 62 1/3 innings on the year and counting. Fastball lived 90-92 mph and topped a couple 93-94s in heavy Reno winds. Reached back for 94 mph toward the later innings. Curveball sat 78-81, continues to show advanced slurvy 1-7 break and depth, forced whiffs and shows the ability to be a quality out pitch at the next level. Also flashed a subtle change in the low-80s with solid arm-side fade and tumble against righties. Feel for spin continues to improve, landed his slurve whenever he wanted. The athleticism and two-sport physicality is on display in the mechanics, downhill momentum and explosive finish on his front side. Plus extension and quality rotation in his lower half, works his hips well. Room for more polish to get in-sync from the stretch at times, but the athleticism and stuff is up there with some of the best in the class. Snelling has shut the door with each start this season, and he’s garnering buzz as a potential first round pick come July.
