College Baseball Top 25: March 14

For just the second time this season there will be a new No. 1 team in the country as the Texas Longhorns lost three games this week, including two over the weekend in Columbia to South Carolina. They fall to No. 3 as we believe the roster and experience will still boast one of the best teams in the nation, but this was a very bad week for the Longhorns. Notre Dame takes over the No. 1 spot in the nation after sweeping both games at North Carolina State this weekend. The Irish lead the nation in fielding percentage and have gone 11-1 to start the season with no home games. Vanderbilt remains at No. 2 after taking care of business against Wagner, while Ole Miss climbs to No. 4 and Tennessee at No. 5 to round out the top-5.

Stanford drops out of the top-10 following their weekend series loss to Oregon, while the rest of the top-10 either took 2-of-3 against quality opponents or it was the SEC sweeping their final non-conference opponents before SEC play opens up next week. Only two teams fell out of the rankings this week, with No. 17 North Carolina State dropping both games against Notre Dame after a disastrous week last week, while No. 22 Tulane got swept by Evansville at home and went 0-4 on the week to fall out.

The two new teams to the rankings are No. 21 Texas State and No. 23 UCONN. Texas State had a hotly-contested midweek split with Texas where they took one and lost the other by one run; they look like the best team in the Sun Belt and one of the best mid major teams in the country. UCONN took 2-of-3 from a solid Pepperdine team on the road and lost just their first game since the Opening Weekend. They’ve been very impressive in that manner and have been doing so while on the road this entire time.
