Top JUCO to 4-Year Recruiting Classes

Early Signing Deadline: Top JUCO-to-Four Year Recruiting Classes (2022)

Note: These classes are current as of this writing, and represent how we see these classes stack up at this place in time. These classes will fluctuate, sometimes quite a bit, by the time August rolls around and we see who actually makes it to campus. Some may choose to return to their JUCO for another year, some may get drafted, and some may not make it to their committed school for any number of reasons. These rankings are generated using several factors, with varying weights placed on talent, performance, pure upside, ceiling/floor differential, and potential draft stock, amongst others. Perhaps the most important aspect that goes into these rankings is impact of said class/players on that particular school. There is a sliding scale involved here, in that sense. Potential signability as it pertains to the draft, and therefore potential likelihood of any of these players to make it to campus, is not used in the creation of these rankings, as that’s way too much of a guessing game to play.

1. Louisiana State

Head Coach: Jay Johnson
Recruiting Coordinator: Dan Fitzgerald

Class Quick-Hitter

The obvious focus is high-end power arms, all of whom come with significant draft upside as well as potential variance of outcomes.

The Players

-Jacob Misiorowski, RHP, Crowder
-Kaleb Applebey, RHP, Wabash Valley
-Adrian Siravo, RHP, Weatherford
-Nathan Ackenhausen, LHP, Eastern Oklahoma State

The Impact

Another high-profile program that saw a coaching staff change last summer, LSU hired Jay Johnson away from Arizona and brought in Dan Fitzgerald from DBU to handle the recruiting. The impact of this class is easy to see, it’s all arms, and it’s all high-end arms. These four players are all pretty easily top-100 JUCO prospects, with all four potentially even fitting into the top-50 when the Top JUCO Prospects List comes out in January. With that level of talent, the inherent risk of losing one or several of these players to the draft is a real one, which obviously impacts how this class might look a year from now. With that being said, this is a killer class. Misiorowski, Siravo, and Applebey all represent three of the highest-end right-handed arms in the whole class. All three can reach towards the upper-90s and have varying levels of polish, but all three certainly fit into the “impact piece” category should they make it to Baton Rouge, while Ackenhausen might have the most polish of the group and could be the most ready right away in 2023.

Pitcher of the Year: Nathan Leffel - RHP - Fresno City College 2026 Stat Line: 89.1 IP | 12-1 | 1.91 ERA | .83 WHIP | 118 K An outstanding individual pitching season in California JUCO baseball this spring. A model of consistency on the mound making starts in January through May for Fresno City. Worked over 89 innings on the mound and made 14 starts where he threw at least 5 innings. Ranked in the top 5 of California JUCO in wins, ERA and strikeouts. And one of the only pitchers in all of JUCO to reach the benchmarks of 10+ wins (12), a sub 2.00 ERA (1.91 ERA) and 100 strikeouts (118 K). A consistent and dominant presence on the mound for a team that went 40-5 this past spring. Congratulations to Nathan Leffel, 2026 Perfect Game JUCO Pitcher of the Year. Pokers Rally to Capture 16U BCS Title A hot afternoon at JetBlue Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida ended in a 9-1 victory for the Original Florida Pokers 2028 National, defeating SBA Bolts Florida 2028 National on Monday to capture the 16U BCS National Championship. A pitchers’ duel kept the game scoreless through four innings before the Pokers broke it open with a five-run fifth inning. The title marked the Pokers’ second 16U BCS Championship, adding to the championship they won in 2022. Despite a slow start to the summer, the Pokers found their stride at the right time. “We struggled a lot early in the summer, but the past few tournaments we really started turning it on,” Pokers head coach Will McCrimon said. “I’m just so proud of these kids.” Max Maynes started the game on the mound for the Pokers. The left-hander allowed three hits and two walks...

Realistic Expectations of a 1:1 Pick

Tyler Henninger

Over the 2026 draft cycle, UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky was the projected No. 1 pick throughout the entire cycle. White Sox fans began #RochWatch and were already talking about when he will make it to Chicago. Now that he has been selected, Cholowsky has immediately become a Top-10 prospect in all of baseball. There is no denying the hype, and the pressure, for Chowlosky to get to the big leagues and produce at a high level.  But how realistic is that? Let’s take a look back at past 1:1 selections and see what you can expect from a No. 1 overall selection.  For this exercise, we’ll look at No. 1 overall picks from the bonus pool era, excluding Eli Willits from 2025 since this is his first full year of pro ball. That gives us 13 players selected from 2012 through 2024.  Almost All Become Big Leaguers The first thing that stands out is how successful No. 1 picks...

Flores posted a 2.78 ERA over 32.1 innings as a freshman before a limited sophomore campaign in which he logged just 12 innings. The stuff was on full display this summer, highlighted by a dominant five-inning, nine-strikeout playoff performance in which he touched 98 mph five different times. Following a dominant week at the 17u PG East World Series, No. 34 ranked 643 DP Cougars 17u capped off an impressive tournament run by defeating No. 2 ranked East Cobb Astros 17u, 3-2, in the championship game to claim the title. The Cougars earned the tournament's No. 1 overall seed after outscoring opponents by an absurd 59-6 throughout the week before completing their championship run with a hard-fought victory in the finale. “Always feels great to finish the year playing your best ball, especially when going up against strong competition,” 643 Head Coach Danny Pralgo said. “We did so many of the little things right: on the mound with location, clean on defense, bunting, 2 strike approach leading to long at bats, getting hit-by-pitches, and we had so many good outs offensively that led to moving a runner or scoring a runner. And when those things all come together in...

Hortenbury was probably one of my personal favorites, as this was my first time seeing it in action. It’s an athletic two-way profile that has a chance to do both at the next level. But what stood out to me, was his potential on the mound. The left-handed pitcher moves very well and is comfortable there. Has the mound presence Supplemented with a free-flowing and loose arm from a higher ¾ slot, he pounded the zone in his lone appearance. He went...
