Freshman Worlds On Deck in West Palm

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Jupiter, Fla. and the surrounding area is the epicenter of the amateur baseball world this week, as the WWBA World Championship comes to town to host the 100 best travel ball teams in the country. Coinciding with that event is the WWBA Freshman World Championship, which is now in its ninth year, and serves as the preeminent event for the 15u age group each year.
 
FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, the Spring Training home of the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, will host 94 of the top 15u travel ball programs in the country from October 7-11.
 
Eighteen different states will be represented at the event, as well as teams traveling from Canada and Puerto Rico.
 
The list of highly-ranked players rostered for the event is as long and as impressive as it has ever been, with 38 of the top-100 players from the 2025 class scheduled to play, 21 of those falling within the top-50 prospects in the class.
 
The Freshman World Championship will also have a nice blend of committed and uncommitted players in attendance. A number of SEC powerhouse programs will have committed players suited up at the event. No. 5 prospect Jacob Kendall has pledged his allegiance to Florida, No. 19 prospect Micah Matthews is a South Carolina commit, and No. 27 Omar Serna out of Pearland, Texas is committed to LSU. Long Beach State also boasts a pair of top-100 recruits in the event out of California in Paul Dominguez-Walker and Trent Grindlinger.
 
The list of highly-ranked uncommitted prospects is even more impressive. Of the 38 top-100 players rostered, only 11 of them have given commitments. The talent certainly doesn’t fall off after those 100 prospects, either, as the depth at the event is truly unmatched compared to the rest of the event calendar.
 
As is the case at most tournaments, USA Prime National boasts one of the most prospect-packed rosters in attendance. Sean Gamble, the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2025 class, highlights the group. The shortstop out of Des Moines, Iowa is joined by Matthews (previously mentioned as the No. 19 overall prospect in the class, Kayson Cunningham (No. 24 overall), Serna (No. 27), Luke Beeler (No. 50), Tate Southisene (No. 78), Minjae Seo (No. 87), and Cooper Moss (No. 89).
 
Canes National 15u will be another favorite heading into pool play, with seven top-40 players on its roster: Dean Moss (No. 3), Boston Kellner (No. 17), Everett Johnson (No. 23), Coy James (No. 30), Eddie Zaun (No. 31), Masa Chilcutt (No. 37), and Noah Franco (No. 39).
 
5 Star National 15u Black is another team to watch, with a foursome of top-100 prospects on its roster: Kendall (No. 5 overall), Luke Pappano (No. 16), Jackson Roper (No. 73), and Kelvyn Paulino Jr (No. 77).

We are in the early stages of the 2027 cycle and there is still plenty of time for players to make significant jumps up the board. While our current Top-100 provides an early look at the class, several players just outside that group have the upside to make a run at becoming Top-50 pick by next July. The landscape of the MLB Draft continues to evolve each and every year. What teams value at the top of the draft can change based on the strength of a particular class, shifts in player development philosophy, and, perhaps most importantly, the way organizations evaluate risk and upside. Some trends are subtle, while others become impossible to ignore when viewed across multiple years. For this study, I set out to answer one question: What player profiles do teams value at the top of the draft? To answer it, I analyzed the Top-100 picks from each of the last six drafts (2021-2026). That gives us 600 total selections to examine and provides a large enough sample to identify both the profiles that have remained consistently popular and those that have gained or lost significant ground. 2027 Top 100 Draft Board  Current Favorite: SS Dylan Seward, Norco HS (Calif.) In our first iteration of the 2027 Draft Board, Norco shortstop Dylan Seward ranks No. 1 overall. The switch-hitter is an ultra-twitchy player with a lot to like on both sides of the ball. He is a supreme athlete that should stick up the middle. Explosiveness is shown in all aspects of his game and gives the profiles big time upside.  In the event that Seward does not go 1:1, each member of our draft team selected a player that they think could wind up in that spot.
