Funky lefty Marcello Mastroianni (2023, Little Silver, N.J.) started off what should be an action packed 2021 WWBA Northeast Qualifier with 4 strong innings on the bump, putting up 8 strikeouts with only 2 hits and 1 earned run allowed. Mastroianni did his damage from a high three-quarter slot and hid the ball extremely well with a deceptive delivery, sitting 80-83 for most of his outing with the ability to run it up to 84-85 and even touch 86 when needed. The uncommitted lefty changed eye levels successfully and flashed a looping 12-6 as well as a plus fading changeup to round out the arsenal. With time and some refinement, Mastroianni could become a dangerous name in the upcoming year.
