SE Labor Day Classic Titles Earned Monday

Photo: eXposure Upperclass Scout Team (Perfect Game)
18u Southeast Labor Day Classic

eXposure Upperclass Scout Team scored six runs combined in the second, third, and fourth innings of the championship game at the 18u Southeast Labor Day Classic, which proved to be enough to hang on to beat Devine Baseball 18u by a final score of 6-3.

Devine Baseball jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning thanks in part to a leadoff double from Landen Fernandez. A wild pitch advanced Fernandez to third base to pitches later, and an RBI groundout from Andrew McMurry brought him home.

Back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the second inning from Jacob Tolson and Walker Strange tied the game at 1-1, and Tolson brought in another pair on a fielder’s choice groundout in the bottom of the third to give eXposure its first lead. Tolson later came around to score in the inning on an RBI single from Caleb Nix.

A Henry Godbout RBI single scored two more in the fourth inning, pushing the eXposure lead to 6-1.

Luke Starling singled to center field in the top of the sixth inning for Devine, scoring both Fernandez and McMurry to get back to within three runs, but eXposure then handed the ball to Austin King, who closed the game out on the mound with two punchouts over his 1 1/3 innings of work.

17u Southeast Labor Day Classic

The Team Elite 17u Black bats were hot early and often during the championship game of the Southeast Labor Day Classic, with two-run innings in both the first and third innings, three-run outbursts in the fourth and sixth, totaling up 11 runs in their 11-4 title win over GBG Southeast 16u.

Team Elite got more than enough production from the top of their lineup. Leadoff man Jason Walk lived up to that name, earning himself two base-on-balls, while also tripling, scoring three runs in the game. Two-hole hitter Christian Stratis scored two runs and drove in another. Stratis was named the MVP of the tournament, as he hit .750 and scored eight runs in total. Three-hole hitter Braxton Brooks had the loudest hit of the title game, a three-run home run on a 67 mph curveball in the bottom of the third inning.

In total, Team Elite had eight different players score a run and seven that drove in at least one run.

GBG’s Tyner Simpson was named the MV-Pitcher of the event, as he tossed a five-inning gem against Team Elite 17u Grey, allowing just two hits and striking out seven during the outing.

16u Southeast Labor Day Classic

5 Star Atlanta 16u Black scored 23 runs across their two games on championship Monday at the Southeast Labor Day Classic, taking down ECB Texas Orange in the title game, 12-3.

First baseman Ayden Ray played a big part, going 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in two more. He was one of four 5 Star players who drove in multiple runs, joining Bryce Herring, Madden Young, and Justin Bass.

Before 5 Star pulled away to win in comfortable fashion, the game was tied heading into the fifth frame. 5 Star had hung a three-spot on the scoreboard in the second inning, but two runs in the third and another in the fourth from ECB knotted things.

However, 5 Star countered with three in the fifth, four more in the sixth, and a two-spot in the seventh to pull away.

Ray was named the MVP of the 16u bracket, hitting .417 for the tournament with seven runs scored and three driven in. Xavier Holiday, pitching for ECB Texas Orange, was given MV-Pitcher honors. Holiday threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings against Team Elite 16u Grey, striking out six and allowing just two hits.

14u Southeast Labor Day Classic

GBSA Rays 14u scored four unanswered runs through four innings of the championship game of the Southeast Labor Day Classic, and hung on through a valiant Illinois Canes Elite comeback, winning by a 4-3 final.

Nox Williams singled in the first inning to bring home the first run of the game and five GBSA the lead, and Cameron Jackson extended that lead with a two-RBI single in the second inning. Two singles to begin the fourth inning from Zacchaeus Madden and Gage Litton led to a double steal by the pair, Litton advancing to second and Madden scoring to push the GBSA lead to 4-0.

Illinois Canes Elite wasn’t done, though. Ryan Riojas doubled to lead off the sixth inning, and Aiden Smith switched spots with Riojas with a double of his own four pitches later, bringing them within a 4-1 margin.

Owen Hidden and Adam Bovinett singled and doubled, respectively, to start the seventh, and both came around to score to get within one run. The GBSA pitching staff tightened up at that point, inducing a fielder’s choice and a swinging strikeout to end the contest and earn a Perfect Game championship.

Jackson was named the MVP for GBSA, as he hit .500 over the course of the tournament, with a home run, eight runs, eight RBI, and four stolen bases. Smith, who hit the RBI double in the sixth inning for Illinois Canes Elite, was named the MV-Pitcher of the event. Across two outings, Smith tossed 7 1/3 innings, allowing just one run, three hits, and striking out four.

Southwest All Region & Top Tools

David Rawnsley

SOUTHWEST REGION (AZ, NM, NV, UT, CO)  The most dominant tool in the Southwest Region for the 2026 season is undoubtedly power at the plate, as most players featured below not only have the size and bat speed to drive the ball but have put up the numbers as well.  While that isn’t exactly surprising given that virtually the entire region plays at elevation, it certainly stands out on the individual top prospects. The Region features four Perfect Game All-Americans in OF Ryan Harwood, IF Rookie Shepard and C Alain Gomez-Gudino and RHP Dylan Blomker.  The 2027 class is looking very promising as well, with four juniors gaining mention on the All-Region team below and Arizona in particular having a very talented class.  Keep an eye out especially for 2027 3B Colton Floyd (Corona Del Sol HS, Ariz.), one of the best and biggest power hitters in that class. DII Top 25: February 11

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
Preseason rankings are less about certainty and more about expectation. Experience, continuity, and proven production tend to win in Division II baseball, but every spring reminds us how thin the margins can be. The teams below enter 2026 carrying varying combinations of momentum, pressure, and opportunity. Some are defending a standard. Others are chasing it.  At this level, projection is rarely about raw talent alone. It is shaped by familiarity, by the players who have been through a season together, by staffs that know how to manage the quiet stretches as well as the loud ones. Injuries, turnover, and postseason moments leave marks that don’t always show up in the numbers, but they shape how teams respond when games tighten.  The programs at the top of these rankings carry more than returning statistics. They carry memory and momentum. They remember what it felt like...

Deep South All Region & Top Tools

DEEP SOUTH REGION (AL, LA, MS, TN) The Deep South Region is absolutely loaded with position talent and would certainly have a chance to outscore any of the other Regions in a straight offensive battle.  And this trend doesn’t look like it’s going to change soon looking at the 2027 and 2028 classes for the Region. All the starting lineup, for instance, is made up of Perfect Game All-Americans if you excuse the recently re-classified Will Brick.  That leaves a pair of Louisiana All-Americans, Miller Sheets and Braylon Montgomery, out of the starting lineup.  Also missing is another re-classified player, Alabama shortstop Rocco Maniscalco, who has been talked about as a potential Day One draft in 2026. A strange twist in the Region is that it is abnormally well supplied with catchers, more so than any other region in the country really.  Nowhere does that...
