16u East WWBA Scout Notes: Days 1-2

Zachary Hernandez (2023, Fayetteville, Tenn.) had hitters baffled all morning with his fastball-breaking ball combination. The fastball lived in the mid-80s all day and the curveball at 70-72 mph with eight strikeouts over five innings, allowing just one run. The fastball topped out at 85 mph but his ability to move it around the zone and especially locate on the glove side made the pitch that much more effective. The breaking ball showed 11-5 shape but was used both in the zone for strikes as well as below for swings and misses, making hitters respect the pitch in all counts. Look for Hernandez to continue to get better at he fills out his 6-foot-1, 155-pound frame with the potential for more velocity to add to his already-solid breaking ball.
