Artillery 2023 Scout Team got off to a 1-0 start in the PG 16U Elite Championship, taking an 11-8 win in a back-and-forth game. Christopher Hacopian (2023, Potomac, Md.) had 3 hits and at least 4 barrels across the two games that Artillery played on Saturday, including a hard single and a loud, long fly out pull-side in game one. He’s got good size and physicality to his frame already and it’s easy to see the offensive upside long term, as Hacopian combines that present strength with above-average bat speed and a clean path, selling out a little bit pull-side at times but with a consistently heavy barrel and strength at impact. He looks like a quality athlete who can stay on the dirt long term to go along with those offensive skills. He’s committed to Wake Forest, and looks like another potential #RakeForest masher.

Austin Lafferty (2023, Pittsburgh, Pa.) impressed us back at the Pittsburgh Indoor several months ago and continues to swing it well into this tourney now, taking perhaps the loudest swing of the game with a monster triple off the wall in left field that wasn’t more than 5 feet from going out. The bat speed stands out here, with a whippy barrel that covers the plate well and the projection on the body to see some real power there eventually, and he’s a good athlete with some potential positional versatility long term, showing some tools both in the outfield and on the dirt. He’s an uncommitted name to follow this summer in the class of 2023.
