Ultimate Baseball Champ. Scout Notes: Day 1

Getting the start for the Dirtbags on Tuesday morning was Texas A&M commit Colin Linder (2022, Suwanee, Ga.), who battled over four-plus innings to pitch his team to victory while punching out nine batters over that span. Linder is a super physical, broad-shouldered arm with present stuff, strike throwing ability, and four pitches he can use to challenge within the strike zone. Linder has a high front side and really works on top of the baseball well, getting that arm on top and snapping downhill to create good life on his pitches and repeat his delivery well. The fastball peaked at 90 mph and sat there for the majority of the contest, really holding that range of 87-90 mph. Linder showed advanced feel to spin and two separate breaking balls in a curveball and a slider. He also turned over a couple changeups that were effective against left-handers. His pitchability and feel to sequence both stand out as he’s a competitor on the bump whose stuff will only continue to tick upwards.


5 Star National’s Sal Stewart (2022, Miami, Fla.) had the hit of the day for the team as he launched a ball deep into the jet stream in right field for a three-run home run that would prove to be the difference in the victory on Tuesday morning. The Vanderbilt commit has long been one of the top pure hitters in the 2022 class who draws rave reviews not only for his hit tool overall but for his advanced plate discipline and ability to limit out-of-zone chases and work walks. Stewart is a physical prospect who played short on Tuesday, getting a lot of chances and converting some tough plays in the process. Still, long term he’ll be an asset in a corner spot, though the bat is the calling card here. In addition to his home run, he singled in game one and drew two other walks in the process. Stewart is a polished hitting prospect and this home run won’t be his only on the summer.
