SANFORD, Fla. – As Canes Florida 13U South and ZT Elite NorCal faced off to see who would take home the hardware, the stage was set with two teams that showed prolific run-scoring ability throughout their three days in Sanford, Fla. Both teams averaged double-digit runs over an impressive six-game stretch. The ability to score runs in bunches was a show to watch, as both clubs drove the gaps from top-to-bottom of their respective loaded lineups.

When the dust settled, it was ZT Elite NorCal holding the trophy, as they won in impressive fashion with a 13-1 run-rule shortened game to win the title.

Nikolas Peinado (2025, Santa Maria, Calif.) threw all four innings, surrendering only two hits on his way to striking out four batters. He worked his heater up to 79 mph while dropping in a curveball that shows good shape and promise, and was rewarded with MV-Pitcher of the event for his efforts. Peinado was also outstanding with the stick and on the defensive side of the ball during his weekend in Florida. The two-way player added two hits, with a double in the championship game. Dylan Minnatee (2026, Elk Grove, Calif.) was outstanding in the lead-off spot throughout, using a sweet left-handed swing and all-fields approach. Archer Horn (2026, San Mateo, Calif.) and Cody Cappelletti (2025, Santee, Calif.) hit in the three- and four-holes in the lineup and combined for an eye-popping seven hits in the championship. Horn belted a double and drove in four runs on his way to being named MVP of the tournament, while Cappelletti drove in a pair of runs as well. During the event, ZT Elite NorCal got production from top-to-bottom of its outstanding lineup.

Canes Florida 13U South was equally impressive during the event until they ran into the juggernaut in the championship game. The blend of pure hitters and middle-of-the-order power in the lineup is special. Not just one dimensional, they have young and sure-handed defenders. This combined makes it an easy bet to see the Canes Florida 13U South making deep championship runs in each and every tournament they compete in.

This was a fantastic weekend with a loaded slate. ZT Elite NorCal had to overcome a six-run deficit in the semifinals with two outs in the seventh to even get to the championship game. Minnatee came through with a bases-loaded triple to tie the game in the bottom of the last inning and Horn walked it off in the eighth inning. The late-inning fireworks just showed the depth and talent that was on display in Sanford at the Florida Elite Championship.
