Christian Franklin, OF, 2021 Eligible

The Arkansas centerfielder is one of the top draft prospects in the country as he could play his way into top half of the first consideration with a strong spring. His third-year campaign didn’t start off exactly as he wanted it to as he went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in his first game but looked excellent after that first dud of a game.

Franklin is a terrific athlete and one that projects to be a centerfielder at the next level. He made numerous impressive catches and ranges effortlessly to both sides. The ground he covers makes him an asset defensively while the arm strength isn’t exactly a strength it’s more than serviceable.

The speed and overall athleticism is excellent and profiles well for him long term both in centerfield and at the top of a lineup. The swing is clean and simple with high quality bat speed and excellent batted ball data. Basically, Franklin hits the ball really hard on a really consistent basis. This allows for him to have significant raw power too that shows up in games as it did this series with a loud opposite field double in a pro park.

Mechanically the swing is simple and efficient. The bat path is flatter with a tight turn over the inside and does an excellent job at extending through contact and really driving the ball. The power plays to all fields well and Franklin did a much better job in his final two games of working at bats and hitting the ball hard. He’ll be scouted heavily in the coming months and certainly looks the part of a first rounder come July.
