Recruiting Notebook: February 1

Tywone Malone, 1B, Class of 2021
Commitment: University of Mississppi

Malone, a highly-touted top-50 football player made his commitment to Ole Miss with the intention of playing both baseball and football for the Rebels. The four-star defensive tackle is a massive-framed athlete at 6-foot-4, 305 pounds, while consistently showing that he has plenty of athleticism to go with his immense stature. The right-handed hitting primary first baseman has displayed his prodigious power for quite a while now, while showing steadfast improvements with his bat-to-ball skills and overall hitting approach. The New Jersey native showed huge power in Perfect Game events and performed extremely well in some high-profile individual events throughout the summer. The intriguing aspect with Malone is the high degree of athleticism that he is able to display for someone of his size, as he has run a 7.3 60-yard dash in previous looks and showed plenty of agility around the first base bag. Malone will be a name to monitor this upcoming season as a potential helium MLB draft prospect.

Outlook for the Class: Coach Bianco and his staff are no strangers to having a potential football star being included on their roster. Malone should join the likes of John Rhys Plumlee and Jerrion Early as dual-sport guys for the Rebels. The power-hitting first baseman is the 12th commitment in the Class of 2021, joining a host of Top-500 prospects according to the latest Perfect Game Class of 2021 rankings. Right-hander Jackson Jobe highlights that class as the highest-ranked player, checking in at No. 14 in the 2021 rankings. Recruiting Coordinator Carl Lafferty continues to pull in nationally-ranked classes year after year and this season is no different with a total of seven prospects checking in within the Top-350 of our latest national rankings.
