MLK South Champions Crowned

3n2 Sticks Baseball 18u National Team cruises to Upperclass Title

Four runs in the bottom of the first inning were more than enough to seal the deal for 3n2 Sticks Baseball 18u National on Monday in the Upperclass title game at the PG MLK South Championship. The team added four more runs in the fifth inning for good measure to end the game early, 8-0 in five.

Parker Coil, Josh Hyneman, and Sean Fitzpatrick combined to throw the shutout, allowing just one run over five innings pitched. Coil and Fitzpatrick carried most of the load, Coil tossing 2 2/3 innings while striking out three and Fitzpatrick tossing two full frames and striking out four.

Xavier Casserilla, hitting out of the six spot in the lineup, notched three hits in the title tilt, including a double, triple, and four RBI. It was Casserilla’s double in the first inning that blew the game wide open, as he lined the ball into center field to score three teammates. His triple in the fifth inning proved to be the walk-off, as he scored Rian Cellers on the play.

Cellers was also impressive in the title game, grabbing two hits himself and knocking in a pair, as well.

Joey Spence, of West Bend, Wisc., was named the MVP of the tournament due in part to his impressive power display in game one of the tournament, where hit a home run and knocked in two RBI. Spence also scored a run in the title game for 3n2 Sticks Baseball.

Morgan Lunceford, a San Diego commit from Edmond, Okla., was the MV-Pitcher for his work on the mound for 3n2. Lunceford threw four innings against Trosky Select, allowing just three hits while striking out nine and walking none.

Banditos 17u Scout Team Crowned in Underclass Championship

Banditos 17u Scout Team used a constant onslaught with the bats to come away with a five-inning run-rule championship win, 10-2, in the PG South MLK Underclass Championship.

Augustus McKay got the nod on the mound for Banditos 17u Scout Team in the title game and got jumped on right away in the first inning to the tune of two runs from Show Call 2022, but he settled in quite well after that, allowing just one hit overall in his five innings and striking out seven, allowing just the two first inning runs.

Banditos got multi-hit efforts from leadoff man Thomas Lyssy, two-hole man Conner Bennett, and five-hole hitter Blake Hansen in the deciding game, and all three players also knocked in at least one run, as well.

Lyssy opened the scoring for Banditos in the bottom of the first frame on a double from Cade Climie. A single from Hansen four pitches later brought in Bennett and Climie, and the lead was the Banditos’ for good.

Climie was named the MVP of the weekend for his efforts, which included a .353 overall average for the tournament, with a pair of doubles, a trio of singles, one home run, eight runs scored and eight driven in.

Xavier Perez threw 4 1/3 innings against USA Prime National 2022 for Banditos 17u Scout Team in the semifinal of bracket play, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six and only walking one. Perez was named MV-Pitcher of the tournament.

G-Form Artillery 2023 Wins Sophomore Title at PG South MLK

After sneaking by with a 5-4 win in the semifinals, G-Form Artillery 2023 finally gave themselves some breathing room in the top of the seventh inning of the title game, breaking a 1-1 tie with a crooked four-run frame to bust the game open. G-Form Artillery would go on to win the championship by a score of 5-1.

Jonathan Fitz threw six solid innings for G-Form, allowing just two hits and one earned run in his first inning of work, striking out eight in the process. Landan Browning relieved Fitz in the seventh and shut the door on Trosky National 2023.

Lucas Moore had three hits out of the leadoff spot for G-Form in the title game, and scored a run in the deciding seventh inning on a double from Austyn Winkleblech, which proved to be the game-winning knock.

Moore, a Kentucky commit, was the MVP of the tournament. His three hits in the title game helped him to a .538 overall average for the tournament, along with an additional four walks, seven runs, and three stolen bases.

Nik Copenhaver, an uncommitted right-handed hurler, was named the MV-Pitcher of the tournament. Over two appearances, Copenhaver tossed eight innings, striking out 13 hitters and not allowing a single earned run.

Trosky Platinum 2024 Hits Its Way to Freshman Title at PG South MLK

Two runs in the second, three more in the third, and a six-spot in the fourth were more than enough for Trosky Platinum to come away with a 11-3 victory in the championship game of the PG South MLK Championship on Monday.

Multi-hit games from Will Dart, Drake Piersall, and Ryan Vandenbrink paced Trosky Platinum. Piersall and Vandenbrink added multi-RBI games, along with Kale Fountain, who drove in three on a home run in the third inning.

Cooper Hansen was solid on the mound for Trosky Platinum, going four innings, allowing one earned run.

AJ Diaz was shutout at the plate in the title game, but was named MVP of the tournament nonetheless after hitting .364 on the weekend, including a pair of doubles and RBI, and he scored five runs, as well.

Gabe Howard, an Oregon commit, was the MV-Pitcher for Trosky Platinum after tossing 4 1/3 innings of shutout ball against Canes West 2025, striking out six in the process.

MLK East Scout Notes Recap

‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. It’s a simple swing, but he’s got fast hands and he can really impact the ball without being overly physical yet.  2030 RHP Michael Vazquez...

Tyler Russo
Article Image
The start of another high school season is right around the corner in a handful of states and with that, as always, comes our Preseason High School Top-50. A whopping twenty states are represented in the initial Top-50, a number that is staggering when you look at the amount of depth some of these rosters have across the nation. Leading the group is St. John Bosco (CA), a team that brought home a CIF Southern D1 title in 2025 and bring back a strong group of seniors to look to repeat. Stoneman Douglas (FL) is a name most people should know by now in the high school ranks and comes in as our preseason #2 team, looking to win their sixth straight state championship in Florida. Orange Lutheran (CA) had a good case for preseason #1 but come it an No. 3, bringing a roster with seven seniors ranked inside the top-200 in the country to the table. Four other Florida schools are represented...
