Georgia State commit, Tristan Nguyen (2022, Gainesville, Ga.) took the mound for his club Georgia Jackets 17u Friday night at Brook Run and turned in another dominant performance, one which we’ve come to expect when he’s taken the mound this year. Nguyen is a 5-foot-11, 210 pound left-handed pitcher from Johnson High School. A junior this fall, Tristan deploys a simple, stretch only pitching motion from the third base side of the rubber. He has good rhythm and timing through delivery and uses a long, clean arm action that releases from a high three-quarter slot with good extension. A highly ranked left-hander nationally, Nguyen’s repertoire consists of a fastball in the low to mid-80s, a curveball in the low-70s with good shape, and a changeup in the low-70s with fade and sell. He has good control of his pitches demonstrating that Friday night as he threw sixty-seven percent of his pitches for strikes. After five innings Friday night, Nguyen left after allowing five hits, and striking out seven preserving his team’s one-to-zero lead for four innings. Friday’s strong outing was his first win of the 2020 season.
