South Qualifier Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2

Three Prospect National Team pitchers combined to throw a three-hit shutout at the Banditos Elite, as PNT captured a 9-0 run-rule victory in first round action of the WWBA South Qualifier playoffs.

Garrett Sargent (2021, Lake Jackson, TX) started and did the majority of the work for PNT, going three solid innings. The 6-foot, 155 pound righty, worked primarily off his heavy sinking 84-87 mph fastball that he complimented with a sharp breaking 68 mph curveball. The Brazoswood HS senior allowed only one hit, struck out five, and didn’t walk a batter during his sound outing.

Pitching an impressive inning and two-thirds in relief of Sargent was 6-3, 240 pound power righthander, Bryce Calloway (2021, Houston, TX). The broad shouldered senior at Second Baptist was dominant, striking out three and allowing only one hit. His 89-92 mph fastball showed impressive riding life up in the zone and was commanded to both sides of the plate. His 72 mph hybrid breaking was a solid, swing and miss offering.

Pitching the rest of the way in a game that ended after five innings by the run rule, was Garret Sargent’s Brazoswood HS teammate, Taylor Seay (2021, Lake Jackson, TX). The 6-2, 175 pound righty has a whippy arm action and a deceptive delivery which allows his 87 mph fastball to play up and get weaker passes. Although he allowed an inconsequential single, he did strike out one to end the game.
