17u WWBA South Scout Notes: Day 1 & 2

In the first game at Blanchard High School, Stix 2021 Black took control early and never looked back. They scored two in the first from well struck singles by AJ Smith-Shawver (2021, Colleyville, Texas) and TCU commit Hunter Teplanszky (2021, Flower Mound, Texas). Smith-Shawver’s productive day at the plate continued when he connected on a big two-run bomb to left centerfield that hit off the indoor facility. Smith-Shawver who also starts at QB for Colleyville Heritage is an intriguing prospect on the diamond. He’s an athletic 6-3, 205 pound player that has plenty of bat speed. If he can find some consistency with his hand load, he’s got a chance to really hit. Ty Johnson (2021, Flower Mound, Texas) is another Stix 2021 Black player that shouldn’t be uncommitted for long. Hitting from the left side, the outfielder had two hits on the first three pitches he saw on the day. He showed great rhythm in the box and was in a great place to hit all day long.
