Aiden Moffett (2022, Mount Olive, Miss.) is physically imposing as he strides to the mound sporting a 6-3, 215 pound frame and what’s scary is he has yet to reach his physical ceiling in terms of maturation with room still to fill throughout. He took the hill for the Louisiana Knights during their first game of pool play and was solid, working three innings of hitless baseball, punching out five while walking three, the only base runners to reach.

Right out of the gate the uncommitted Moffett was in attack mode, showing a long but fast arm stroke with present fluidity from a higher three-quarters slot to generate a fastball that bumped 92 mph and worked in the 88-91 mph range early on. While he would get out of sync with his release point at various times, there’s no doubting the athleticism and ability on the mound as the fastball with cutting life and made for some uncomfortable swings, missing plenty of bats. He maintained the upper 80s velocity for the better part of the outing, touching 88 mph out of the stretch on his final pitch of the third inning and pitched heavily off of the heater. Moffett mixed in both a curveball and slider, the latter of which showed better with maintained arm speed, though it’s a pitch he’ll continue to develop.

For what could likely be his first outing of the summer, Moffett quickly checked a lot of boxes and made a name for himself on the national scene which could quickly change his commitment status as well.
