Top 18 Middle Infielders 2020 & 2021 | Top 12 Middle Infielders 2022 & 2023

Each week Jered Goodwin and Jheremy Brown will break down the top nationally ranked prospects at each position in the 2020-2023 classes, but there’s a twist. Instead of keeping them ranked within their specific classes as you'd find in the most updated national rankings, we will blend the top 2020s and 2021s into a top 15 list and then do the same with the 2022s and 2023s to see where they stack up against one another putting grad year aside. The 2020/2021 list will always be the first release, followed by the 2022/2023 with a different breakdown amongst positions weekly and this week we look at a talented crop of outfielders. 

1. Zac Veen
The biggest riser in the class this spring, Veen was hardly an unknown.  The lefthanded hitter participated in the All-American Classic last summer and has had some big moments during his prep days. His walk-off home run during the playoffs at the WWBA Underclass helped create a stir. The 6-foot-4 picturesque frame will fill out nicely to help add to his already above average power grades. He gets very good reviews for his pitch selection and recognition. His base running is underrated as he is aggressive and shows good instincts. The University of Florida signee played centerfield this spring but should shift over to right field where his big arm and offensive profile fit perfectly.  
 
2. Austin Hendrick
Hendrick may have the most usable bat speed in the class. He very rarely has to decelerate when he launches and there is really not much swing-and-miss to speak of considering his powerful swing. There is some movement in his swing and some questions about his set-up come up, but there have been some adjustments to quiet things down. A lot of the movement seems to be for sync and timing and the operation works for him against elite velocity. There is a good argument that Hendrick has the best chance to start his professional career with the most success as well as carrying that success long term. He profiles as a true middle of the order bat and a long time run producer.  

3. Tyree Reed
The centerfield profile with a plus arm and power potential will attract enough attention. The track record for hitting to all fields and overall makeup could put him firmly at the top of the 2021 class of outfielders. His 6-foot-2 frame is long and lean with clear room to add strength. As good as his production has been, he hasn’t tapped into his upside. He performed well at the Junior National Showcase last summer and showed glimpses at the WWBA Underclass this fall hitting .353 with five stolen bases. There is real separator potential.
