2020 High School Preview Index

Team Breakdowns: 1-10 | 11-20 | 21-30 | 31-40 | 41-50

The final 10 teams have been unveiled, and, as such, there is a Preseason High School Top 50. In total, there are 50 teams from 19 different states with Florida and California leading the way with 10 teams and nine teams, respectively. Florida and California also represent the first two teams in the rankings in Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) at No. 1 and Notre Dame (Calif.) at No. 2. This goes to show that the talent-rich states are especially deep this year, including the top team in the land. 

Between the Top 50 teams there are 18 defending state champions, led by Tampa Jesuit. The top five includes DeSoto Central (Miss.) at No. 3, North Gwinnett (Ga.) at No. 4, and JSerra (Calif.) at No. 5. There is a ton of talent with the teams in the Top 50 which includes 15 total PG All-Americans represented throughout these teams. Blaze Jordan is on the highest-ranked team that includes PG All-Americans while Harvard-Westlake at No. 9 includes the only duo of PG All-Americans in Pete Crow-Armstrong and Drew Bowser. 

As always with the high school season, there are a number of high profile events to keep an eye on that will feature a ton of ranked teams. The PG High School Showdown features nine preseason ranked teams and will take place March 5-7 in Hoover, Ala. The National High School Invitational (NHSI) features 12 preseason ranked teams and will take place April 1-4 in Cary, N.C. The Boras Classic South will feature five preseason ranked teams, all from Southern California, on April 14-17. 

Region-wise the top-ranked team in each region are as follows:

• Florida: No. 1 Tampa Jesuit
• Pacific: No. 2 Notre Dame (Calif.)
• Southeast: No. 3 DeSoto Central (Miss.)
• Texahoma: No. 7 Southlake Carroll (Texas)
• Southwest: No. 14 Palo Verde (Nev.)
• Midwest: No. 19 Orchard Lake St. Mary's (Mich.)
• Northeast: No. 23 St. Augustine Prep (N.J.)
• Great Plains: No. 40 Regis Jesuit (Colo.)
• Northwest: No. 41 Jesuit (Ore.)
• Mid-Atlantic: No. 43 Chapin (S.C.)

The season is already beginning with spring practices and scrimmages in full swing throughout most of the country. Perfect Game covers the entire country and will be on hand for all of the action. TBT Phillies Scout run rules for second straight MLK East Championship The 14U TBT Phillies Scout Team overtook A3 Academy Futures 14-6 in the final game to win their second straight 2026 MLK East Championship. Though the skies were blue and the sun was out in Fort Myers, Florida, the air was very chilly. The wind whipped through the palm trees as players, parents and friends piled into the 5-Plex Player Development Complex bundled up in blankets, hoodies and beanies.  The A3 Academy Futures were first up to bat - and the TBT Phillies struggled through the first frame. MLK West Scout Notes: Days 1-2 Markus Chandler, RHP, Westside HS Class of 2027 A little on the undersized side as a sub 6 footer, but Chandler can generate some velo and spin.  Spun 3 frames of hitless ball for Spects National with zero walks and 6 strikeouts.  Committed to Kansas State, the righty ran the fastball to 92, living 89-92 pumping the zone with 75 percent strikes.  Looked like two different breaking balls, with the SL 80/81 (spin in 2500’s) and curveball 75/76.  No hard contact, little contact at all off the righty in this dominant outing.
