There was significant change to the Prospect League for the 2019 season. One team, the Kokomo Jackrabbits, left to join the Northwoods League, the Butler BlueSox ceased operations and three new teams joined the league: the Cape Catfish, DuPage Pistol Shrimp and Normal CornBelters. As a result the East and West Divisions were realigned and the league also made tweaks to the regular season and playoff formats/schedules.

One of the new teams, the Cape Catfish, had the best regular season record (43-17), good for a .717 winning percentage. The Catfish advanced to the championship series, and even took the first game of the best-of-three series, but couldn’t close the deal against the Chillicothe Paints, who claimed their first league title since 2010.

Both the Player of the Year and Starting Pitcher of the Year, Andrew Stone and Bryan McNeely, played for the Cape Catfish. Stone in particular posted some video game numbers, hitting .397 with 16 home runs and 33 stolen bases, leading the league in hits (86), runs (66) and steals. The league’s top two prospects, Austin Marozas and Jordan Mikel, are hard-throwing, big-bodied righthanders from Plainfield, Ill. looking to make strong impressions next spring leading up to the 2020 MLB Draft.
