NY Gothams win 15u NE WWBA

The NY Gothams 15u (22) continued their potent offensive ways, defeating the Long Island Junior Ducks 6-3 to claim the WWBA 15u Northeast championship victory at Baseball Heaven on Monday afternoon.

Michael Sirota continued the same offensive prowess he showed all weekend, adding a double and an RBI to help the Gothams cause.

Jean Nunez was terrific for the Gothams, going 6.2 innings and allowing only two earned runs to an excellent Ducks offense. Nunez struck out five and allowed only five hits over the long outing.

For the Ducks Hayden Leiderman did most of the work on the hill. Leiderman went 3.2 innings while allowing one earned run, striking out two.

Preston Gerena did some of the heavy lifting for the Ducks offense. Gerena produced an RBI single and counted for two of the Ducks three runs on the afternoon.

The Ducks struck first on the championship afternoon, bring a run in during the bottom of the first. Paul Mata led the game off with a single and came around to score an a Gothams error, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead after one.

After evening the game at one in the top half of the third, the NY Gothams produced an outburst of offense in the top of the fourth.  Michael Alcantara led the inning off with a double and came around to score on a SAC fly from Kenny Maldonado. The Gothams added two more to extend their lead out to three heading into the bottom of the fourth.

After a scoreless fifth inning the NY Gothams found their stride on offense once again in the top of the sixth, tacking on two more to extend the lead out to five. Alexander Rosario doubled and came around to score on a Leo DiRisi SAC fly, and another came in on an RBI groundout from Robert Nunez.

The Ducks responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth but were unable to maintain offensive success in the bottom the seventh. Paul Mata was thrown attempting to bunt by Gothams Catcher Michael Alcantara, sealing a 6-3 Gothams win.
