Hoover welcomes Jr. National

HOOVER, Ala. – The Hoover Met Sports Complex located in this Birmingham suburb will serve as host for the 14th annual Perfect Game Junior National Showcase, which begins its four-day run on Thursday, June 6, and concludes Sunday, June 9.

Just more than 260 of the top prep prospects from the classes of 2021 and 2022 will be at the Hoover Met for the invitation-only event. Many of these highly regarded prospects were in attendance at the PG 14u Select Baseball Festival in Fort Myers, Fla., in either 2017 or 2018.

The showcase is among the most heavily scouted underclass events in the world and is sure to draw hundreds of college recruiters and MLB scouting department personnel.

Among those putting their talents on display are 12 prospects from the class of 2021 that are ranked in the top-30 nationally and seven from the class of 2022 are ranked in the top 34 nationally.

The top 2021s include Winder, Ga., shortstop/right-hander Brady House (No. 3-ranked, Tennessee commit); Texarkana, Ark., outfielder/left-hander Braylon Bishop (No. 4, Arkansas); St. Louis right-hander/infielder Christian Little (No. 7, Vanderbilt) and Boynton Beach, Fla., right-hander/first baseman Irving Carter (No. 9, Miami).

Las Vegas outfielder/right-hander Thomas Dilandri (No. 11, TCU); Mableton, Ga., shortstop/right-hander Michael Braswell (No. 17, South Carolina); Palmetto Bay, Fla., catcher/third baseman Jayden Melendez (No. 21, FIorida International) and Jackson, Miss., right-hander/infielder Kelly Crumpton (No. 25, Ole Miss) are other top 2021s.

Also, Jacksonville, Fla., catcher/right-hander Jackson Baumeister (No. 26, Florida State); Rogers, Ark., right-hander/outfielder Keegan Allen (No. 28); Pompano Beach, Fla., right-hander Andrew Painter (No. 29, Florida) and Port Neches, Texas, shortstop Drake Varnado (No. 30, South Carolina) will be on hand amongst the 2021s.

Gainesville, Ga., outfielder/right-hander Riley Stanford (No. 5); Miami corner-infielder Sal Stewart (No. 10, Vanderbilt) and Wexford, Pa., shortstop Cole Young (No. 14, Duke) headline the 2022s who will be in Hoover.

They’ll be joined by Baltimore, Ohio, right-hander/outfielder Jacob Miller (No. 24, Louisville); Columbia, S.C., third baseman/right-hander Tucker Toman (No. 30, Oregon); Davie, Fla., first baseman/right-hander Yoel Tejeda Jr. (No. 33) and Arlington, Va., right-hander/first baseman Jack O'Connor (No. 34, Virginia), among others.

At the conclusion of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft, 479 alumni of the PG Jr. National Showcase had been drafted, including 42 first-rounders and another 22 first round compensation picks. Forty-two Jr. National grads have made their big-league debuts, a number that includes the Phillies’ Bryce Harper; the Cubs’ Albert Almora and Addison Russell, the Rockies’ Nolan Arenado, the Indians’ Francisco Lindor, the Rangers’ Joey Gallo, the Pirates’ Josh Bell and the Astros’ Lance McCullers.

ZT National Prospects Hold Out to Win 2026 WWBA Sophomore Championship In a game that kept everyone guessing until the very end, the ZT National Prospects won the 2026 WWBA Sophomore Championship over Wow Factor/Toronto Blue Jays Scout Team 8-7. Over the past few days of the tournament, the usually cruel southwest Florida weather had been unusually kind - but the warmth of the sun had still taken energy out of both championship teams. They had finished hard-fought semifinal matches before walking from the backfields of JetBlue Park to the big-league stadium. WWBA Sophomore Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 Lukas Klipper (2029, Clearwater, Fla.) was electric at the plate, collecting six hits, highlighted by a monstrous home run off the batter's eye in his second game. High-level left-handed hitter with a really easy swing and functional actions. Klipper lived on the barrel throughout the game and showed off his run-producing ability in huge situations.  Lane Ayars (2029, Mount Juliet, TN) got the starting nod in round two and did not disappoint. WWBA Sophomore Scout Notes: Day 1 | Day 2 Ronin McCrea (2029, San Diego, Calif.) had an all-around performance at the plate, going two-for-two with two singles, two runs scored, and three RBIs. The right-handed hitter displayed a short, compact swing with a direct and efficient path to the baseball. McCrea showed excellent barrel control throughout the game, consistently producing hard line-drive contact to all parts of the field. Jayson Blanco (2029, Homestead, Fla.) was dominant on the mound, tossing a five-inning no-hitter while striking out six. The right-handed pitcher worked down the mound efficiently with a smooth, fluid delivery that helped him consistently attack the strike zone. WWBA Sophomore Scout Notes: Day 1 Rhys Jones (2029, Mc Lean, Va.) was absolutely dominant on the bump to start off day 2 hanging an impressive 10 strikeouts in 5 innings. Running the heater up to 84 with arm side run and the breaking ball got swings and misses. The strike percentage stayed right over 55%, and he carried a no hitter into the 6th. Easy arm action with a high 3/4 slot and controls the move down the rubber.  Jevan McMenamy (2029, Fargo, N.D.) was all around solid today tallying two hits, an rbi, and a walk. In the box he works to the middle of the field in the approach and can elevate to all fields. Coils deep into the back hip and works through contact with strength.
