Greg Jones, UNC-Wilmington
One of the leaders for the Seahawks of UNC-Wilmington in a game one series win over Kennesaw State was switch-hitting shortstop Greg Jones. An elite defender, Jones was able to display all facets of his game in this contest. His range, glove, arm strength and hit tool from the left side were all showcased. His lone at-bat righthanded in the game resulted in a four-pitch walk.

Jones delivered an RBI double in his second at-bat of the game that he ripped down the right field line. Jones was hitting from the left side as he pulled the ball showing his quick and loose hands working to the baseball. He turned around first base with a home-to-first time of 4.36 seconds with the aforementioned turn burning out of the lefthanded batter’s box. The ball really jumps off of his barrel with plenty of quick-twitch and juice. Jones has extremely fast hands that get to the baseball quickly and compactly while whipping the barrel of the bat through the hitting zone.

The defensive skill-set is the big carrying tool here as Jones’s hands are elite up the middle. He moves to the baseball quickly while working his soft hands out in front really well. Jones has outstanding range that really showed up in this contest making big-time plays to his left and his right. The arm strength is right around average on a professional scouting scale that may move him to second base long term, but the actions combined with a switch-hitting tool make Jones intriguing as an MLB Draft prospect this season.
