EMERSON, Ga. – The 16th Annual 17u WWBA National Championship gets underway on Friday, June 29 in the greater Atlanta area.

In what is the largest tournament of its kind, 392 teams from across the country will flock to LakePoint to battle for the title of national champion. There will be 49 pools of eight teams, with pool winners claiming a spot in the single elimination bracket that begins on the Fourth of July.

While teams from Georgia, Florida, Virginia and Tennessee make up a majority of the tournament field, 33 of the 50 states are represented in this year’s tournament. Other states include Illinois, California, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Colorado. There are also two teams from Puerto Rico and one from Canada.

Every year, some of the top 17u prospects showcase their skills at this event, and this year’s crop of talent is no exception. All 10 of the top 10 players will be in attendance at the event, including No. 1 player Bobby Witt, Jr., a shortstop from Colleyville, Texas who is committed to Oklahoma.

Another exciting prospect that will be in attendance is Jerrion Ealy. Ealy just ran a 6.13 second 60-yard dash at the Perfect Game National Showcase, and is committed to play both football and baseball at Mississippi.

Canes 17u is the reigning champion of the tournament and they return this year with another loaded roster of talent. Their roster includes Matthew Allan and Matthew Thompson who are ranked at 10 and 11 in the class of 2019, respectively. All together, 27 of the 30 players on this year’s Canes team are committed to playing Division I baseball.

Other past champions of the event include: East Cobb Braves (2003), Houston Kyle Chapman (2004), NorCal/All American Prospects (co-2005), All American Prospects (2006), East Cobb Braves (2007), Diamond Devils (2008), ABD Bulldogs (2009), Diamond Devils (2010), East Cobb Braves (2011), Houston Banditos (2012), Orlando Scorpions (2013), EvoShield Canes 17u (2014), CBA Marucci (2015) and FTB Tucci (2016).
