National HS Top 50: May 8

National High School Top 50: May 1

As we get into May some state playoff tournaments are nearing their ends, particularly in the state of Louisiana. Former No. 4 team Zachary (La.) was upset in the state quarterfinals, and as a result falls to No. 39 in the rankings while former No. 9 Northwestern (S.C.) lost to TL Hanna (S.C.) in the district championship, and thus drop out of the Top 50. When teams begin to end their seasons there will be big fluctuations in the rankings, more than the static nature of the regular season, so expect to see a lot of new teams in the coming weeks.

The top three remains unchanged with Calvary Christian (Fla.) at No. 1 as they captured the district championship, Argyle (Texas) finished their regular season undefeated at No. 2, and No. 3 Blessed Trinity (Ga.) has advanced to the state quarterfinals without dropping a single game in the best-of-three styled format of the Georgia state playoffs. No. 4 Faith Academy (Ala.) is in the semifinals of the state playoffs that will feature a best-of-three series on Thursday, and Riverdale Baptist (Md.) is on a 22-game win streak after starting the season 5-1.

No. 6 Parkview (Ga.) takes on defending state champions Etowah (Ga.) in the 7A quarterfinals and Harvard-Westlake (Calif.) climbs to No. 7 and No. 1 in the state as they maintain their 15-0 start in League play. No. 8 John Curtis Christian (La.) is also in the state semifinals, Huntington Beach (Calif.) climbs to No. 9 after having lost only one game in League play and Lake Travis (Texas) rounds out the top 10 at No. 10 as they prepare for a deep playoff run.

The highest ranked new entry to the Top 50 is No. 34 Vero Beach (Fla.) as they enter with a 17-game win streak. The following teams are also new entries to the Top 50: Staley (Mo.) at No. 37, George W. Jenkins (Fla.) at No. 40, Woodstock (Ga.) at No. 41 and Bishop Eustace (N.J.) at No. 44.

The start of another high school season is right around the corner in a handful of states and with that, as always, comes our Preseason High School Top-50. A whopping twenty states are represented in the initial Top-50, a number that is staggering when you look at the amount of depth some of these rosters have across the nation. Leading the group is St. John Bosco (CA), a team that brought home a CIF Southern D1 title in 2025 and bring back a strong group of seniors to look to repeat. Stoneman Douglas (FL) is a name most people should know by now in the high school ranks and comes in as our preseason #2 team, looking to win their sixth straight state championship in Florida. Orange Lutheran (CA) had a good case for preseason #1 but come it an No. 3, bringing a roster with seven seniors ranked inside the top-200 in the country to the table. Four other Florida schools are represented...
