Dominant one-hitter leads to Carl Black Longhorns Championship

EMERSON, Ga. – The Carl Black Longhorns defeated Rawlings Cobb by a score of 7-1 to claim the 2018 PG 9u Invitational. Both teams were stellar all weekend long and it showed in a quality championship matchup.

The Longhorns were the visitors in this one and got the scoring started early as Mason Fowles walked to lead off the game and later scored on an RBI groundout by Cooper Slayton. Rawlings Cobb answered back with a single run of their own in the first inning of championship action.

The second inning was where the Longhorns pulled away and never looked back. With two outs in the inning, Jack Dunn, Bode Spence and Carson Kimm each walked while Chase Beasley reached on an error to set the stage for Mason Fowles. Fowles ripped a single on an 0-2 fastball to deliver another run.

In the fifth and sixth innings the Longhorns would capture three more insurance runs to help secure the victory. Tyler Coley was the lone Longhorn to collect multiple hits, but as a team seven of the 10 players in the batting lineup reached base via a hit.

Tyler Coley was brilliant on the mound for the Longhorns as was Joey DiMartino in his relief appearance. The duo combined to allow just one hit to help lead the Longhorns to the 9u Invitational championship victory.

The MVP of the tournament was Chase Beasley of the Carl Black Longhorns. Beasley had a strong performance this weekend going 4-for-8 (.500) that included a home run and three RBI.

The MV-Pitcher of the 2018 PG 9u Invitational was Tyler Coley who pitched a marvelous game in the championship to secure the crown on top of having a pair of very impressive relief appearances earlier in the tournament. The stat line for Coley on the weekend was three hits and five strikeouts in eight innings of work allowing just three runs and two walks earning the victory in two of the three contests.

WFBA 10u scores early to secure 10U Championship

EMERSON, Ga. – WFBA 10u outlasted OP SOX, 5-2, to earn a championship victory in the 2018 PG 10u Invitational. WFBA 10u was the lone undefeated team remaining after a hard-fought weekend.

WFBA scored very early in the contest as Steele Hall led off the game by reaching on an error. Three pitches later Cooper Cantrell drove him in on a line drive single up the middle. The scoring threat was not over in the first as Ty Waters pulled a single to left field to drive in Cantrell for the game’s second run.

The bats would go silent in the second inning for both ball clubs before another two spot was put on the scoreboard by the home team. WFBA would get a one out walk by Roman Jackson. Jackson would steal second base to set up Waters again with a runner in scoring position. Ty Waters would deliver once again with another RBI single to extend the WFBA lead to 3-0. That was not all for WFBA in the third inning as Waters would eventually come around to score the fourth run of the game on a wild pitch.

OP SOX would get a run back in the fourth and sixth inning, but the game was out of reach due to the outstanding starting pitching from WFBA’s Steele Hall. Hall issued just two hits over the course of his 5 1/3 innings on the hill while striking out three.
