During the season Perfect Game scouts will be traveling to some of the top series to watch the very best players in college baseball. Parker Caracci, RHP



Parker Caracci is yet another bullpen ace out of the 'pen for the late innings for coach Mike Bianco, and the draft-eligible sophomore had a strong showing in the eighth inning against the Georgia State Panthers in the first of two mid-week contests. The righthander is a physical 6-foot power arm that attacks with a two-pitch mix that induces a stupid amount of swings and misses to the tune of 18 strikeouts in only 8 1/3 innings pitched. 

Caracci has a fairly quick arm stroke with lots of arm speed through release, and creates late life on his already hard fastball that sat in the 93-95 mph range for his one-inning-plus stint. Caracci attacks to both sides of the plate with the fastball, and it jumps on hitters out of the hand, and, combined with the late life, can make for a very uncomfortable at-bat regardless of the handedness of the hitter. 

The slider was a solid offering and worked in the 80-82 mph range during the outing. The pitch is thrown with the same conviction as his fastball and the lower arm slot makes for a very difficult angle on release of the pitches. Caracci attacks the strike zone and should be among the nation's leaders in strikeouts out of the bullpen by the time season's end comes around.


Grae Kessinger, SS



Sophomore shortstop Grae Kessinger has been a dominant force both at shortstop and at the top of the lineup for one of the top teams in the country as Kessinger reached base six times over the mid-week two-game series against Georgia State. There are a lot of tools to the profile and Kessinger certainly appears as one of the top sophomores in the country as things stand right now. 

Kessinger has a very lean, athletic, and still projectable 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame with a high waist and long limbs that indicate he can add future strength. Kessinger is an agile defender, with quick feet and moves well to both sides. He is a surehanded defender, with quality hands up the middle and made a number of impressive plays look rather easy over the two games. He will likely be drafted as a shortstop and has a pretty good shot to stick there at the next level should he retain his athleticism, though his draft class is over a year away. 

The tools play well offensively as his long limbs allow him to create big leverage to the pull side. His hands explode through the zone and create lots of bat speed which allows him to impact the ball with lots of strength. The raw power is likely above average, as he notched a good amount of BP home runs, but that power didn't play that well in game as he relied mostly on line drives. Kessinger affirmed his status as one of the top sophomores in the class and is one to monitor for next year's draft.


Houston Roth, RHP



Slotting in nicely in a mid-week role for the nationally ranked Ole Miss Rebels is righthander Houston Roth who showed off a strong righthanded profile during his victory over Georgia State on Tuesday. Roth is listed at a very physical 6-foot-3, 220-pounds with well-proportioned strength throughout the frame, including through the lower half. The delivery is very simple and fluid, though there is a head whack with some violence through release that can disrupt his command at times, however the command was sharp with the exception of one walk early in the game. 

The arm path is simple and repeatable, though he will shorten it on the breaking ball, and despite some head whack at the finish, the delivery is relatively low effort. Roth's fastball was mostly straight in terms of life, though he flashed some plane when getting on top of the ball thanks to his high three-quarters arm slot. The fastball worked 88-92 mph for the majority of the afternoon and he bumped a 93 mph pitch in the middle of the start. 

The breaking ball was a major out pitch for Roth on the evening as the pitch was thrown with conviction, showing power break, and racked up a good deal of swing-and-miss. Roth struck out seven batters overall in a little over five innings and the breaking ball showed mostly 11-to-5 curveball shape, though he could tighten the grip to manipulate that shape intentionally. There was lots of tilt and sharpness to the pitch, with a velocity range of 77-81, and it's easy to project it as an above average pitch moving forward. 

Roth also flashed a couple of straight changeups against lefthanded hitters and while he didn't have the best command of it, the pitch still was something that lefties had to mind. Roth has a very polished arsenal with the breaking ball being the selling point of the profile. He is an intriguing prospect and has already solidified himself as a strong mid-week option for coach Bianco and the rest of the Ole Miss team.

Luke Costello | INF | South Carolina | Bourne Braves  Costello brings one of the cleaner offensive operations in the Cape, featuring a simple, direct swing that allows him to consistently get the barrel out front and do damage. He minimizes unnecessary movement, stays on time, and shows the strength to impact the baseball with authority. After a very productive spring hitting .302 with 17 home runs during his sophomore season at Wake Forest, Costello heads to South Carolina as an established middle-of-the-order bat. Carter Nash (2029, Moore, S.C.) was all over the barrel for ZT National Prospects 15u. The right-handed hitter starts from a medium stance with in-line feet and a high handset with a high back elbow, utilizes a low leg lift trigger. Creates separation in the back shoulder and flips the hips with quick hands from a slightly uphill bat plane and good bat speed. Easy juice and strength present in the 5-foot-11, 201-pound frame with feel to impact and drive the ball. Showed the feel to let the ball travel and get deep and showed the hand speed to create barrel whip out front and drive the ball consistently to the backside. As the summer travel baseball season comes to an end, over 80 teams will meet in East Cobb, Georgia as they look to end the year with a victory and a trophy at the PG East World Series. The premier event will host 5 age groups of 14u-18u with pool play commencing the tournament on Friday, July 24th, with champions crowned on Monday, July 27th at East Cobb Baseball Complex. The 15u field will feature 26 teams from all over the southeast, including the No. 27 team in the nation from the 14u rankings, Home Plate Chili Dogs 14u Glozier. Gavin Johnson (2029, De Pere, Wisc.) handled the bat pretty well this weekend for his CBT Wolfpack 15u team that made a run into bracket play. Johnson is a left-handed hitting first baseman with a physical 6-foot-1, 200-pound frame, showing good physicality throughout the build. It’s a clean stroke from the left side, with feel to deliver the barrel on time and drive the ball working pull-side. He has a feel to rotate well, loading deep with the hands & turning well through contact to impact the baseball out in front. Another week of Perfect Game baseball concluded as champions were crowned in the 15U, 16U, and 18U divisions of the Southwest Select Championship. After several days of pool play and championship bracket action, three teams rose above the competition to capture tournament titles following a week of high-level baseball. Throughout the tournament, teams from across the Southwest and beyond competed in closely contested matchups, producing standout pitching performances, timely offense, and memorable defensive plays.
